2014 ILLINI RACING SERIES SCHEDULE FEATURES HISTORIC AND NEW VENUES
By Zach Tasker
It is said that variety is the spice of life, adhering to that rule; the Illini Racing Series will have plenty of spice in 2014. One of only two midget series east of the Rocky Mountains to feature both pavement and dirt tracks together on the same schedule, the IRS will hold 19 races this season spread across 16 weekends. The dirt is represented by the most historic and revered midget track in the country-Angell Park Speedway and at Sycamore Speedway. The three pavement tracks on this years card feature the unofficial home of the IRS, Grundy County Speedway, Rockford Speedway and M40 Speedway in Jones, Michigan. The trip to M40 on July 4 weekend marks the first ever visit to the Wolverine state for the Illini midgets. Three double header weekends all on holiday weekends also highlight the season slate.
IRS race director Loran Critchett Jr. is excited for another year of affordable midget racing “The driver, team and car that wins this championship is definitely going to have to work for it. It’s a very diverse schedule. We are returning to many of the same tracks that we have been to for the last two years and we are also adding a new track that we are going to this year that we are really looking forward to and that is M40 Speedway in Jones, Michigan. We are going to be there for a two day double header over the Friday and Saturday July 4 holiday weekend. We are really looking forward to that. It should be a really good time with fireworks, a party and the whole nine yards.”
Critchett noted that many tracks are starting to express interest in the IRS and the schedule is always a delicate balancing act “Thanks to all the guys that have been working hard over the last few years, putting good race cars out on the race track and good competitive racing, it is starting to open some eyes and we are getting more requests from many of the groups that we run with that they would like for us to come and run with them more. We would love to do it, however we can’t stretch our guys too thin. We like to keep the diverse schedule that we have, we like to keep supporting the people that have supported us over the years as well as try and open new doors. We are looking forward to going back to Sycamore on the flat dirt, we are looking forward to going back up to Sun Prairie with POWRI on the thick heavy banked dirt, and then we also are looking forward to the pavement with the high banks of Rockford, the big fast, flat 1/3 mile at Grundy and then the opportunity to check out a new pavement track with M40. It should be a very interesting schedule.”
The Illini Racing Series is the original affordable midget racing series in Illinois. Featuring exciting racing on multiple tracks with stock, production based 4 cylinder engines. The IRS 2014 season should be just as exciting as ever, as Patrick Bruns tries to go for three straight championships, something that has never been done before in the 22 year history of the series. However he will have to fend off a pack of very talented and hungry drivers.

Nice "bullet points" in that write-up!

Kind of fires me up for restricted midget racing! Room for support on a couple of cars out of my shop...(and/or rental ride/rental engine for select dates. Please contact asap if any interest).

How many "duel surface" midget clubs are there WEST of the Rockies??? lol
