Millstadt, IL – Friday, October 9th the Shaeheen’s Super Weekend at Jacksonville Speedway will kick off the POWRi Division II Midget Series, in addition to the running of the POWRi Lucas Oil National Midget Series, the MOWA Sprint Car Series, and UMP Modifieds. POWRi would like to thank Ken Dobson for the opportunity to showcase this class to the fans and teams, alike. The POWRi Division II Midget Series has been created to help promote affordable midget racing throughout the United States. This sportsman type of midget class allows drivers and teams the opportunity to compete prior to tackling the national level.

POWRi officials have a meeting set for the middle of October to meet with local sanctioning bodies including POWRi Midwest Division II, POWRi Southern States Midget Series, IMRA, and Illini Midgets to create a standard set of rules, all across the board. The standard rules are anticipated to be released by the first of November. Until then, the race for October 9th at Jacksonville Speedway will be ran adhering to the rules that CILTRAK has been utilizing at Lincoln Speedway. For questions regarding these rules, please email or call Ken Dobson. For 2016, the POWRi Division II Midget Series is working with promoters Bob Sargent, Ken Dobson, and Brad and Morey Denny to include the following tracks: Lincoln Speedway, Macon Speedway, Quincy Raceways, Jacksonville Speedway, Spoon River Speedway, and Belle-Clair Speedway. Look for more information will be released in the future.

I hope all these rules don't obsolete every "National" engine...running them restricted has worked pretty well for the IRS for years...many "2.4s" & 1000s ran top 3 / top 5 (at least one win too...) with BMARA in 2015. I DO hope that ALL the clubs (including IRS & BMARA) get on a harder 10" RR RACE tire in 2016...& do like KNOXVILLE 410 SPRINT CARS, AND OTHER OPEN WHEEL CLASSES (not to mention many of the PAVEMENT stockcar tracks in the IL/WI area) have rules & limits on the amount of new rubber you can throw at your car every race or so...

Jason - You can get in touch with me at 217-371-3653. Text preferred. However, for this event next Friday we are not allowing restricted national engines to race with the DII. We have not done that all season here in Central Illinois. It's something that the groups together can work on during the winter. Those decisions are above my pay grade. This is an event where we will have National midgets racing on the same card and we are a pretty small track, so there is the opportunity to race a National engine... two nights with the National midget part of the event.

As for rules, our rules evolved during the season as we moved from a Lightning Sprint class to more of a DII class as we allowed Ecotechs. It seems that the IMRA rules kind of became our default around here... so we will be working from those for Friday the 9th.

We fully understand the interest in the restricted engine in the DII class. We have a push rod midget ourselves. If we can get the 'ole girl running in time, it will be racing with the National midgets this week instead of DII.

And for those of you with Ecotechs... hang around for Saturday night and race it into the show with the National midgets. A well-driven Ecotech can get around this little bullring just fine.

We will pay $400 to win and $65 to start Friday night for the DII's.

It would be great if we could get some races in southern Indiana / Illinois (Tri State, Chandler, Route 45) makes it pretty difficult for a small family team to pull 3 - 4 hours. We really love running with the DII group at Salem.

Jason

Tell me more about your 10" RR tire. I think that would be the key to everything. Just like the Open Wheel Mods that RR goes a long way in evening things up I would suspect. Now about them Old School National Midget Motors. If the class comes up with a good stock engine formula, you guys with the older motors could buy a brand almost new 2.4 or 2.5 motor for less than the cost of the freshen up on your old motor. Heck just sell it to a guy into vintage racing and make a profit on it. If you blow the old motor up then the later model motors would be a no brainier for a replacement. I said 2.5 motor for a reason if a racer wants to buy a low mileage motor out of a 2 year old car they ain't going to be any 2.4's, because the car makers for the most part have gone up another 100 cc's (about 6 cubic inches) for their newer motors. If a racer can buy a motor right out of the salvage yard and install it and race it racing will be a lot cheaper.

The after market people can still make adapters, exhaust pipes and mufflers, fueling options and yes even Ignition box mapping and or special aftermarket ignition box's to keep them cams in place to prevent these motors from becoming too too highly tuned for the average racer thus giving them an unfair advantage over the other guy that is running an older motor Remember we are talking about $2500.00 for a new 2015 2.5 Ecotec motor.

If you race with stock out of the car salvage motors finding and buying a low mileage motor is much cheaper than going through it and installing new pieces, even if stock pieces are used. Not only that but most of the blocks on these engines are so thin if you throw a rod through the side they are to thin to weld back up. The average Midget racer will have to change his whole outlook toward maintenance on the engine if they decide to race in this class>>>he should not repair the engine, just replace it when it goes bad. That should go a long way to keep the cost of racing at a minimum.

Honest Dad himself
