2016 UAW American Made Mel Kenyon Midget Series driving champion Dameron Taylor picked up his third straight feature win in Saturday night’s 50-lap contest at the Sportsdrome Speedway. Taylor won both Sportsdrome Speedway races in 2017, earning his 14th career victory in the UAW Kenyon Midgets. Saturday night’s win brings him within one win of tying Kyle O’Gara’s record mark of 15 career wins.

The win didn’t come easy as Taylor battled temperatures in the high 90’s and a mid-field starting position. At the green, pole sitter Tommy Kouns jumped into the lead followed by Trey Osborne. Osborne grabbed the lead on lap eight while Taylor dropped to eighth from his number six starting position. Two mid-race cautions closed the field up and helped Taylor as he carved his way through the field.

Taylor closed on Osborne stalking him and finally showing him a wheel on the front straight from lap 38 to 40. On lap 40 Osborne finally moved up the track in turn one just enough to allow Taylor to pull along side and complete the pass for the lead on the back stretch. Osborne immediately fell in behind Taylor and continued to battle him to the finish.

The big mover of the race was Clayton Gaines coming from the last row to finish third. Gaines used the mid-race yellows and a solid drive to earn his final position.

Cole Christy finished a career best fourth and Ryan Huggler came home fifth. Huggler started the race alongside Gaines on the last row.

The UAW American Made Mel Kenyon Midget Series will return to dirt racing on Saturday night July 29 at US 24 Speedway in Logansport, IN.
