July 2nd, 2016. Grundy County Speedway hosted a great night of racing for the Illini Racing Series. Eleven cars took to the track to begin the night for the midgets. Patrick Bruns made his first pavement start of the 2016 season, bringing his MWR Lightning/ Chevy Ecotec midget back to the Winner's circle. Teammate, Austin Smith, was close behind in second place and Bob Shreffler was third to make it an all Chevy Ecotec podium.
Grundy County Speedway has been the home of Chicagoland midget racing since the Joliet Stadium days. We thank the Fair board and staff for all of their help and support providing a great place to race.
A big thank you also goes to Heroes West and long time midget racing fan Al Harris for all of his support this evening. Mike Motherway, another long time friend of midget racing and a great track announcer was back at the microphone providing exciting race calling.
After capturing the 20 lap feature, Patrick Bruns was all smiles and said that the new tire program worked out to be better than expected. It sure looks and feels like the new American Racer tires we, used for the first time, will be a great replacement in our new rules package
