Story by SkinnyKennysPhotos:
Waynesfield Raceway Park finished out the 2009 race season on Sunday September 27th. It was a cool and windy night but the start time of the racing action was moved up by one hour in order to get the fans and racers home early. The plan worked out well because the nights activities were finished before 9:30pm.
The 600cc winged mini-sprints were the 1st to line up with their feature event. Wapak's Devon Dobie wasted little time getting into the top position. The young man drove a near perfect race and went on to add another feature win to his racing resume. Garry Loney followed Dobie across the finish line in 2nd position. That run helped Loney earn the 2009 track points championship. Kevin Wills finished the race in 3rd while Max Stambaugh had his best run of the season to finish 4th. The mini-sprint heat wins went to Stambaugh, Loney, and Hershel Wills.
The Waynesfield tuff trucks would then take a shot at taming the high banks. The Twining brothers, Matt and Gabe, had alot of success racing trucks this season at Waynesfield. This final truck race of 2009 would come down to Gabe Twining getting another feature win as brother Matt finished in 2nd place. Chris Hicks had another strong run to finish 3rd. Matt Twining was crowned 2009 tuff truck points champion. Heat wins were recorded by Dan Crowder, Jerry Sawmiller, and Tim Dick.
The alcohol burning 410 non-wing sprint cars were next in line. 34 Cars were in attendance to take a shot at winning the $1500 payday. Performance Powder Coating provided the sponsership for the increased pay. Nic Faas and Josh Moffatt fought a side by side battle for the top spot during the 1st half of the race until Jon Stanbrough made a daring move to split the front two cars and take over the lead position. Stanbrough has raced just a handful of times at Waynesfield this season and has always finished in the runner up position. He finally got that monkey off his back and earned a win at Waynesfield. Nic Faas finished in 2nd with 3rd going to Josh Moffat. Thomas Meseraull turned in one of the most impressive runs of the year at Waynesfield. After crashing in his heat race, Meseraull had to run one of the 2 sprint car b-mains. He won that b-main, started the a-main near the tail, and drove all the way up to a 7th place finish. The sprint car heat winners were Stanbrough, Matt Westfall, Mike Burkin, and Casey Riggs. Meseraull and Brandon Ferguson won the twin sprint car b-mains. Kyle Simon earned enough points to become the sprint car track points champion of 2009.
The front wheel drive compacts were the final feature race of the season. Jeff Kimes has dominated the compacts this year and tonight would be no different. Kimes would find himself in victory lane for the 7th time in 8 races this year at Waynesfield. Justin Durflinger and David Yoder fought it out for the runner up position with Durflinger getting the spot at the checkers. The compact heats were won by Kimes and Brian Beach.
The management and staff of Waynesfield Raceway Park would like to thank the fans and racers for your support this season. Our 2009 championship banquet is currently being planned for sometime in November at the fairgrounds in Wapak, Ohio. Please check our website as the banquet info will be released when the plans are finalized. Big things are being planned for the 2010 schedule so keep checking www.waynesfieldmotorsportspark.com for further information.
