Story by SkinnyKennysPhotos

The air was a little cool and damp feeling at Waynesfield Raceway Park on Saturday June 13th but the racing action was hot and heavy. Promoter Dean Miracle and staff had plenty of moisture in the dirt racing surface and the lack of sunshine helped keep it tacky, dust free, and lightning fast!
Racing champion Jack Hewitt was at the track to help support his nephew Dallas Hewitt in his 360 wing sprint car efforts. Jack also brought his 410cid 2-seater sprint car to show off to the fans. After 4 years of trying to convince his daughter, Dean Miracle finally got Stephanie to strap in the back seat and take "the ride of a lifetime" in the 2 seater with the great Jack Hewitt driving. After their 1st lap around Waynesfield, Stephanie relaxed and totally enjoyed the ride with one of the greatest race drivers in history. She had a smile that was a mile wide as she climbed from the car and returned to the track tower where she works as the head scorer during the races. Hewitt took the 2 seater out on the track later in the evening with a fan that bought a ride with Hewitt. On Thursday June 25th Jack Hewitt will be at Waynesfield Raceway Park to give rides in the 2 seater sprint car. A ride with Jack Hewitt in the car will cost $125 for anyone that wants an experience of a lifetime. Those rides will begin at 1:00 pm and will continue until everyone that wants a ride gets one.
The always exciting UMP Modifieds would be the 1st feature event on the card as the sun was beginning to set. Brent Hole would be lucky enough to earn the pole starting position on this night and that was the spot he would stay in for the entire 20 laps. Hole had won a feature at Waynesfield a few years ago but was unable to find victory lane last season. Tonight Hole would return to the spotlight at Waynesfield. He was all smiles while the fans were cheering as he got his photo taken in victory lane. The true battle on the track during the race was for the 2nd position. 2008 track champion Brian Post worked his way towards the front from his 9th place starting spot. Chris Ullery had his best run of this year as he ran 2nd for most of the race until Post found a way to get past him. At the UMP Modified feature finish, Hole was 1st followed by Post and Ullery. Jeff Babcock, John Brooks, and Zach Schroeder were credited with the UMP Modified heat race wins earlier in the evening.
The Waynesfield Tuff Trucks would be the 2nd class of racers to take to the high banks for their share of tonights purse. Unfortunately, the fans would see just how "Tuff" a couple of the trucks really are. Tim Dick started the race in the 2nd row and it didn't take him very long to get into the lead. As Dick pulled out to a 4 truck length advantage, the fight for the runner-up position saw trucks running 3 wide around the track. They soon began to work their way past some slower trucks as the leaders put those trucks 1 lap down. While the battle for 2nd was turning into an all out war with Mike Hicks, Chris Hicks, and Bill Keeler using every inch of the racing surface, they ran out of room passing the slower trucks. Mike Hicks and the lapped truck of Eric Ordean got together resulting in both trucks barrel rolling in turn two. It was a violent accident that had the fans and crew members holding their breath until both drivers emerged from the trucks unhurt. Ordean's truck had plenty of damage but Hicks' truck was totally destroyed. It is a shame to have a severe accident like this that damages the race vehicles but the good point is that both drivers were not hurt. Those are definantly "Tuff Trucks." After the track was cleared the race resumed. Tim Dick was able to lead the final laps of the race and score his career 1st truck feature win in his 4th season of racing. Gabe Twining worked his way into the 2nd position and was followed across the finish line by Bill Keeler. The truck heat winners were Gabe Twining, Russ Wagner Jr, and Tim Dick.
The winged warriors of the 360 sprint cars were the next feature to take over the track. When the race started, the cars didn't make it back to the flagstand before the red flag brought the race to a halt. Tim Hunter and Mike Dunlap both ended up flipping and coming to rest on their sides in turn two. The drivers were not injured but their pride must have been. As the safety crew worked to clean up the mess, Hunter and Dunlap had a heated exchange of words as to who hit who and caused the wreck. The track officials were able to keep the drivers far enough apart to avoid a physical confrontation but they sure had a diffence of opinion as to who caused the mishap. The remaining sprint cars were lined back up for a complete restart. Tim Allison shot out into the lead as the green flag waved and his only challenge would come after a late race restart with just 2 laps to go to the finish. Neil Shepherd took one shot at passing Allison for the lead on the bottom of the track but Allison quickly slammed the door on him. Tim Allison went on to win his 2nd sprint race of the season at Waynesfield Raceway Park. This was Allison's 96th career sprint car win. He says his goal is to win over 100 races before he retires from driving and at this rate he may very well get to that point during this 2009 season. Shepherd went on to finish 2nd in the sprint car feature event. The most impressive run of the night goes to Darren Long by finishing 3rd after starting in the 15th position. The sprint car heat winners were Mike Dussel, Mike Dunlap, and Neil Shepherd.
The stock cars would be the final feature event of the evening with Greg Knoch and Barney Craig leading the field to the green. They would run side by side during the first few laps of the race until Craig finally flexed his muscle and took the lead. Tony Anderson started in the 4th position and began to chase down the leaders. He was able to pass Knoch and began to apply the pressure on Craig. Anderson worked the high side of the track and eventually passed Craig who was running the bottom. Craig began dropping some positions and finally pulled into the infield with mechanical trouble. Jeff Babcock advanced from his 5th place starting spot and passed Anderson for the lead with just a few laps remaining in the race. Babcock went on to put another win on his resume with Anderson finishing 2nd. Jeff Koz turned in a solid run by placing 3rd on his 1st visit to Waynesfield Raceway Park. Jim Post and Babcock won the stock car heats earlier in the evening.
There will be no racing at Waynesfield on Saturday June 20th as the track prepares for the All Stars to invade during the Ohio Sprint Speedweek. Wednesday June 24th Waynesfield will be hosting the All Star Sprint series as part of the Ohio Sprint Speedweek. Joining the All Stars will be the the Waynesfield Tuff Trucks and the stock cars. Get there early and mark your seats because this will be the biggest race of the year at Waynesfield. The best kept secret in racing is now out!! www.waynesfieldmotorsportspark.com for the latest info
