I don't know if this information is of any value to anyone on IOW, but I just got off the phone with the fairground office at PAS. I was able to confirm with them that the previous camping area (both grass and paved) will be inaccessible at the Oval Nationals, and RVers will be redirected to the north end of the regular parking lot.

The nightly dry camping fee of $25.00 will still apply, even though no hookups will be available. The woman I spoke to stated that the regular campground was always considered dry camping, and that anyone who previously was hooking up to electric and/or water, was doing it without the permission of the fairground, as there was no agreement between the fairground and track to provide these services.

Just a guess, but I would imagine that rest rooms will also not be available when the track gates are closed.

Its a shame to hear that one of the premier events at the end of our racing the season gets such a bad rap. I hope to make it out there some day, I hear its a really nice place. Hopefully the ruling parties will make this event the big deal it used to be.

I have thought about going out there this year while health is still good enough, but after hearing all this and finding out the purse is no wear close to what it has been kinda killed my mood about going

We have flown to SoCal explicitly to attended 5 events at The PAS consisting of the Oval Nationals and Turkey Night. For an Illinois clod hopper like myself the experience was fascinating to say the least. The setting is unique and quite dissimilar compared to what we were/are accustomed in regards to race spectating. Plus, the racing was extremely entertaining. In our opinion, culture shock and California pricing can be a bit over the top but the experience as a whole was worth it. Not necessarily something that we would make an annual ritual of, but definitely worth the time, effort and cost.

Silver Crown Championship Dirt Cars properly driven on a one mile dirt track are classic poetry in motion. Using that analogy, Jack Hewitt is one of the greatest poets of all time.
