Midgets Set For Montpelier Motor Speedway Saturday, September 5th

The Montpelier Motor Speedway Midget Series presented by the Leaders Edge (Indianapolis, Indiana) will be set for wheel to wheel action this Saturday, September 5th, as a part of the Montpelier Jamboree celebration featuring a parade, concerts, fair rides, and food! The MMS Midger series utlizes full size Midgets and a variety of power-plants and provides competitive Midget racing featuring an open tire brand and compound rule.

If the August 15th feature is any sort of indication of the excellent Midget racing at MMS then fans will be in store for a great feature event. The August 15th Midget feature saw an intense battle between Justin Peck, Gage Walker, and Davey Ray. All three time spent time at the point as they diced up the running corner after corner in the late stages of the race. Eventual race winner, Justin Peck, slipped to third in the battle but was able to race his way back to the lead in the final laps. Ray[from 8], Robby Parish[from 9th], 4. 21N-Nick Speidel, and Chett Gherke[1] rounded out the top 5 with points leader Walker falling to 12th running out of fuel. Bear Woods was the hardcharger passing 13 cars. Heat races were won by Chett Gehrke (from 8th), Alex Watson, and Justin Peck (from 6th). A B-Main was not held allowing all 24 Midgets to start the main event.

Recent Haubstadt Powri Winner, Gage Walker, will enter the weekend as the series points leader followed closely by Gehrke. The top 6 points chasers (Gehrke, Ray, Etgen, Nick Speidel, and Justin Dickerson) are all within striking distance of the leaving the points leader with only a single point events remaning after the September 5th race. Gage Etgen is the current Rookie of the Years points leader over Cole Fehr, Brandon Gray, Bear Woods and Chris Baue.

I hate that the Zonker will miss its' first race at MMS in 2 seasons due to a ventilated crankcase, but I won't. If any benevolent car owners out there have an open seat and feel like giving me a shot at cracking the top ten I'm bringing my helmet bag; you never know...

Johnny's cars are staying in Illinois this week; don't know of anyone else who's renting locally.
As far as the Zonker, I'm weighing options. Another oil-burner may be beating the proverbial deceased equine but anything else will require cutting off the welded-on motor mounts and putting in a motor plate, so what to hang on it? A "legal in all possible scenarios" 1000, a bad ol' 'Busa (which I'm hearing may be legal in D-II with weight penalties but rules me out for any MMSA non-wing action) or bite the bullet and put in an Ecotec and a driveline?

I just noticed I finally made the poster this week! That makes it even more heartbreaking. Dang, she was running good right then, and I was finally getting into the corners hard.
Anybody? I got this place figured out...
