HAUBSTADT, Ind. -- The newly formed Heartland Auto Racing Tour (HART) will debut its new HART Non-Wing Micro Series, in 2019.
The outlaw micro sprint series, will aim to have 14 races on its inaugural schedule, with dates at five tracks already secured.
“This first year, we hope to lay the groundwork for what will be a very successful series for years to come,” Dewain Hulett, HART promoter said. “There are great promoters and great facilities that are known for fantastic micro racing in Illinois and Indiana, and we look forward to working with many, if not all, of them.”
Rules for the new series will be released soon, but it will be an open outlaw micro class.
“We don’t feel like there is a reason to reinvent the wheel with our rule package,” Hulett said. “But, taking the wing off will level the playing field substantially and offers a growing number of non-wing drivers a traveling series to follow.”
There will be a points fund at the end of the year, for drivers who finish at the top of the point standings, and run 75 percent of the HART Non-Wing Micro Series races in 2019.
“Already, we have sponsors on board for 2019, and we continue to work toward more sponsorship, including a title sponsor,” Hulett said. “A main focus here on out, as far as sponsorship goes, is finding contingency sponsors.
“We hope to not only offer a solid purse - thanks to our racetrack partners - but also award our drivers with added contingency bonuses nightly, as well as at the end of the season,” Hulett added.
All HART races will be based on a passing point system, which will use straight up draws for heat racing action. The heat race winners, and the highest drivers in passing points - not to win a heat race - to make a total of 8 cars, will perform a redraw for their starting position in the feature. The scheduled starting field will be 20 cars for the main event, with 16 cars qualifying through the heat races. B-mains will be lined up by heat race passing points with a total of 4 cars from the b-mains tagging the tail of the feature event.
“It has been my experience that trying to find the perfect mix of what is best for fans and racers is very difficult, as a race promoter,” Hulett said. “With that being said, I honestly believe that this passing points system, with the feature redraw, tends to lead to the best for both parties.
“It definitely makes for great racing for the fans, and still fair to the driver,” he added.
Membership information will be released in the coming weeks, as the series works to complete the schedule for 2019. There will be a one time membership for any driver who wants to contend for series points. Members will not have a draw fee at any HART races.
Non HART members will have to pay a non-member fee to draw.
The minimum purse for HART Non-Wing Micro Series will be $600 to win, and $75 to start.
There will be more information released soon. The HART website www.heartlandautoracingtour.com is under construction, but will be up soon.
