I’m under the impression that the new conventional way to get a ride is for a driver to bring a large sum of $$ or sponsorship to the table...that’s like half the field in USAC and the Outlaws.

Obviously there are owners out there still looking at talent...but that pool of owners has been shrinking since the early 2000s.

This is solely based on my opinion.

I know that last week the owner called T-Mez and said "if you meet me at Lawrenceburg you can drive" He did - they won - I'l damn sure guarantee T-Mez didn't pay

So where are the owners and sponsors of yesteryear? Chevy Performance, Turbines, Freightliner, Indiana Underground, Terre Haute Bank whatever its name was, whose fault is it? USAC? Can Smoke or Young Money twist some arms and bring some money back? Or will the federal government raise tax rates and suck away the money that could have supported racing?

Good question about Smoke and Larson, you could add Kasey to the list too. I always wonder about the fact they field wing teams but ultimately USAC is what got them where they are.

Indiana Underground was Terry Riggs. He passed away earlier this year.

I gather it's sponsor related (those seem to like the Winged cars...). Idt the "big names" spend much (if any) of their own $...(that's not a dig...good 4 them they don't have too).

Kasey and Tony had multiple teams in all divisions, but that went away when those guys figured out there is way more money to be made in wing racing. Payouts and sponsorship far exceed that of the non wing world.

Didn't Kasey go away once the Mopar money went bye bye?

Has to be some reason KKR and TSR folded all of their USAC efforts to only run wings.
