Cale ran with USAC a couple of seasons in the early seventies
He was a teammate to Lloyd Ruby
He was one of my all time favorites

A tough as nails competitor but one who always had his priorities in order. He was definitely one of my favorites.

Cale was a great driver and a tough as nails competitor. Took no gulph from anyone. He will be missed.

I remember seeing a NASCAR night at Santa Fe Speedway in about 1979. Cale, Darrel Waltrip and others had late models painted up like their NASCAR cars. They raced hard & clean on the half mile and were respected by the local drivers. Those were great days when the Winston Cup guys made many visits to the short tracks. RIP racer. You gave us many thrills. 🏁

Was always a DW fan but I was starstruck as a 12 year old when I saw Cale at the same hotel we were staying at for the Michigan race. I opened the room door and Cale was walking past with his wife(?). I froze and his wife just winked at me. Once I unfroze I couldn’t find him to get an autograph 😂

I was driving to Myrtle Beach in the mid 90's and saw a car dealership with his name on the marque. I can not remember but I think it was a Chevy dealership. I stopped, went in. Of course a salesman came up to me and I asked if Cale was in. He was. I told him I was a fan from Indianapolis and would like to meet him. A few minutes later was escorted down the hall to his office and there sat Cale Yarborough! I'm not going into specifics other than before Eagle Creek Reservoir was built there was a road called "Dandy Trail" and Cale got the full attention of the Marion County Sheriffs. department one night. This was my opening question, He knew I knew some things and was a real fan.

He offered me and my girlfriend at the time a Coke! We sat in his office and shot the breeze for about half an hour and it was wonderful. He gave us some tips on where to eat and things to see and it was really, really cool.

RIP Cale. What guy and what a life.

From memory, Cale was the one that gave Darrell Waltrip the nickname of "Jaws"
