Rain Halts Friday Night’s Action
And Creates Mega Day
At Gas City I-69 Speedway on Saturday

GAS CITY, Ind., Oct. 23 — Rain halted the first half of the “Fall Festival of Speed and Non-Wing Nationals” at 10 p.m. Friday night at Gas City I-69 Speedway, forcing track officials to postpone the B- and A-mains for the non-wing 410 sprint car and Interstate Racing Association (IRA) Auto Meter Wisconsin wingLESS sprints to Saturday at 3:30 p.m. At the conclusion of that show the complete program for Saturday night will begin at 5 p.m.

The A-mains for the USAC regional midgets and the 600cc micro-sprints originally scheduled for Friday night will not be rescheduled, as they weren’t on Saturday’s card and Saturday is the track’s 2021 season finale.

There were 108 race cars on the grounds Friday, and even more are expected for the second half of the Fall Festival, as modifieds, street stocks and hornets will join the two classes of wingless sprints.

The pit gate will open at noon on Saturday for the competitors who participated Friday night and at 1:30 p.m. for the modified, street stock and hornet teams.

The grandstands will open at 3 p.m. for fans who have their ticket stubs from Friday night.

At the conclusion of the show postponed from Friday, security will sweep the grandstands and then allow fans with tickets to Saturday’s program to enter the grandstand area.

Fans who are only coming on Saturday and want to see the conclusion of Friday’s show as well as Saturday’s program can purchase a pit pass on Saturday for $35, or a grandstand ticket for the remainder of Friday’s show for $15 and a grandstand ticket for Saturday’s new show for $20.

Non-Wing 410 Sprint Cars

Brayden Fox of Pittsboro, Ind.; Issac Chapple of Willow Branch, Ind.; Mario Clouser of Chatham, Ill., and Shane Cockrum of Benton, Ill., won the four eight-lap 410 non-wing sprint car heats Friday night. Two B-mains will be run on Saturday afternoon to complete the 20-car field. Cockrum will be on the pole for the 25-lap A-main.

IRA Auto Meter Wisconsin WingLESS Sprints

Jake Kuba of Minneapolis; Clayton Rossman of Wadsworth, Ill., and Natalie Klemko of Bristol, Wis., won the three IRA Auto Meter Wisconsin wingLESS sprint heats Friday night. A B-main will held Saturday afternoon to complete the field for that division’s 25-lap A-main.

USAC Midwest Regional Midget Series

Chett Gehrke of Bardtown, Ky.; Ronnie Gardner of Corona, Calif., and Kyle Simon of Covington, Ohio, won the USAC Midwest Regional Midget Series heats on Friday. Gehrke sewed up the series’ 2021 drivers’ championship.

600cc Non-Wing Micro-Sprints

Bobby Bazan of New Harmony, Ind., won the first 600cc non-wing micro-sprint heat Friday. The second one was abandoned with one lap down when the drizzle that punctuated Friday’s show increased to a steady rain.

Red Flags

Kyle Shipley of Phoenix, Ariz., flipped in Turn 4 in the first 410 sprint heat with four laps down. He was not hurt.

Jake Swanson of Anaheim, Calif., flipped in Turn 2 with one lap down in the third 410 sprint heat. Not only was he not hurt, he restarted the heat and finished sixth.

Gas City I-69 Speedway is located on State Road 22, approximately a half-mile west of I-69, exit 259. The quarter-mile dirt oval is about halfway between Indianapolis and Fort Wayne, and attracts drivers and fans from all over the Midwest.
