Sun Prairie, Wis., June 30---Midget auto racing’s fourth longest continuous running event the 34th annual Pepsi Midget Nationals will be run on Sunday night July 5 at Angell Park Speedway.

The event will be co-sanctioned by the USAC Honda National Midget, POWRi Lucas Oil National Midget Series and Zimbrick Chevrolet of Sun Prairie/Mid-State Equipment Badger Midget Series. Former event winners entered include: current USAC point leader Tracy Hines (2001, 2002 and 2010), and Jerry Coons Jr. (2007).

The event will also feature a tribute, for former driver Frank Burany. Burany, a member of the National Midget Auto Racing Hall of Fame will make an appearance at the track, and be interviewed during the evening’s opening ceremonies, after qualifications. Burany celebrates his 100th birthday in August, and raced in the first-ever Badger sanctioned race in 1936.

Rico Abreu hopes to become only the second driver to win the Chilli Bowl Midget Nationals and Pepsi Midget Nationals in the same season, joining Dan Boorse who turned the double in 1999! Four other drivers have won both events during their career including: Rich Vogler, Jay Drake, Scott Hatton, and Hines.

The Badger 600 Micro Series, and the Wisconsin Dirt Legends Series will also be competing during the evening’s events. The track’s traditional Fireworks display presented by Budweiser will be done at the conclusion of racing events. Spectator gates open at 4;30 pm, with practice at 6:00 pm, followed by racing.
