In regards to Stockon and Ballou listed as 6th in points, is there a tie breaker or do they share that standing?

"Ties for positions two through ten will be broken by awarding the position to the driver or entrant who amass their point total first." That is what the USAC rule book says if anyone has the answer to that please share.

You normally break ties in the Point Standings by who had the most wins first and then most tops 5s and then most top 10s. Guess that would make too much sense.

I question this tie, and I wish USAC could explain. Chase went into the final night three points ahead of Robert. Chase finished one spot better in his heat than Robert. Chase was second and Robert was third. Then in the feature Robert finished 8th and Chase was 9th. There is supposed to be a two point difference in feature position. Without even counting the heat points, which would be in CHases favor, this would leave him one point up on Robert for sixth. If point heats were counted it would be more than one. Go figure! Typical USAC dession.

Did Robert Qualify in the top 6? Or did they get qualifying points because it was a different format?

There is a 3 point difference in position through the top 10 then it goes to 2 points. Anybody can go on the USAC website and look at the point structure, rules, ect. Maybe try that before bashing a situation without knowing the facts.

Thanks Coondog for clearing this up. USAC changes how points are awarded, depending on the format of the show. There was pobably only feature and show points given, for the top six from the night before were locked in and qualifing was for the rest of the field. Robert was 18th and Chase qualified a cold Walker backup car at the end of qualifing and was 29th. The thing that always keeps me watching the point deal is the nights this season that the gave show up points only, Chase most of them was in the top 5 and most of the top points people did poorly on some of those nights. If points paid was consistant he had a chance to be in the top five. Coondog you should be an interested authority at this for it also involves your career.

I don't like those show up point only races. That hurts the show and pisses everyone off.

If there isn't a tie breaker rule set in stone and if there's any grey area, the fairest way would be add the 6th place money to the 7th place money and let them split it !!!!
