Here is an article from our local paper. As it is worded, there is no true answer to if the track will stay open if this happens. On good authority, though, I have heard it will:

From speedway to weed one day?
Second medical marijuana facility being vetted in Hartford
by ALEXANDRA NEWMAN - HP Staff Writer
Jun 19, 2018 Updated Jun 19, 2018

HARTFORD — Another medical marijuana facility is in the works for Hartford.

City Manager Yemi Ankinwale told the City Commission Monday night that the city received an application last week for a medical marijuana grow facility at the Hartford Speedway.

The racetrack, along Bowie Street, has been for sale since October 2017.

Ankinwale said several greenhouses would be built, and fenced in, on the 42 acres of land.

The city’s fire and police chiefs and building inspector will vet the application before it is sent to the city’s Planning Commission for review. Then the city’s attorney will look it over and it will come to the City Commission for consideration.

If the City Commission approves it, the application will go to the Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs for a state license.

The city’s marijuana ordinance, approved in November, allows for one type of each facility in the city. Ankinwale said the speedway is zoned industrial, which grow operations have to be in.

The city has been considering a medical marijuana dispensary since January. The first application submitted by Med+Leaf was not approved by the City Commission because it was too close to a church.

Ankinwale said Monday night the final piece of the new application was received Friday and it is being reviewed by the city’s attorney. He said the attorney was asked to review it so the City Commission can consider it at next Monday’s business meeting.

The track's Facebook page has a statement about this. The track is not sold and the Dibbles plan to keep ownership/promoting the track. The only reason that the track was put up for sale was due to the serious illness of their son.

Right you are, friend. As so often these days, journalism leaves out bits and pieces leaving the readers stymied. In this case, they left out a huge piece of info on the future of racing.

All I know is this is going to be good to follow if approved by the city. For one, it should help the Dibbles and bring an cash. For two, if they put greenhouses up, as stated, where would they put them? There really isn't much area outside of the track other than behind Turns 1 and 2, nd that is a parking lot. And three, how many fans might object to this? I for one, think it is a great idea, but I burned out long ago.

Attention drivers & race fans: This post is to clear up any misconceptions from an article that was printed by our local news paper today. Although some of the facts were true, most were false. The speedway has NOT been sold! We have every intention on remaining the owners/promoters of Hartford Speedway. The 2018 season will continue on as planned. We appreciate your continued support. We will continue to give 100% and do our best to be the BEST Place to watch dirt track racing. The Dibbles
