Concerning ambulances here in Indiana, of the many tracks I have attended, all except Tri-State Speedway (Haubstadt) only transport the patient to the gate, and another ambulance transports to the hospital. Tri-State also normally has two ambulances on site, and always has plenty of security.

I have never seen them race without an ambulance present. And I go a lot of regular shows there.

The State of Connecticut State Police control all racing in the state. They are present at all racing. I know the state had a regulation that no cars were allowed on the track before noon on Sundays.

I could be in error, but I believe the Connecticut State Police Racing Unit was disbanded several years ago. At least that's the information I was given when I attempted to file a complaint about a race I participated in being run without an ambulance present.

I do give credit to Eldora as they are mandating full containment seats for all series this year (hence why BOSS is not sanctioning the Sprintacular nonwinged portion). Of course it took a fatality last year in a late model for this to become mandatory.

Just makes me sick when we lose another driver. RIP Dave Steele and Jason Leffler.
Shane Unger, the man who died at Eldora did not die from not having HANS or not having FC seat, he died from internal injuries, NOT head or spinal trauma. He was a grown man as was DS, both capable of making his own decisions, I'm not for mandatory PPE, this isn't the USSR or France. We have freedom and sometimes we are free to be wrong. Not in favor of government or sanction overreach. Shane Unger was a large man and never would have been able to use an FC seat anyway and in a DLM can lead to entrapment during rollovers, which happened twice last year with fires and 1 fatality. FC's aren't right for every application and making them mandatory can open you up for lawsuits as well. Its best to educate and strongly recommend in my view.

Had to wait one night for 2 1/2 hours to get started because there was no ambulance or fire crew to start hot laps, promoter said they would be there when the racing started because they were not needed during practice or qualifying (and again who took the blame).

One of my favorites was at Mansfield Speedway one night, the promoter tells me that the firehouse is only seven minutes away and they have an ambulance. I ask him what do you do if they are on another run...blank stare, still no ambulance...then I ask him what if a train is using those tracks...blank stare no ambulance...so finally I tell him if he can fold his breath for 7 minutes we will race with no ambulance...dude made a phone call and ambulance was secured for the night.

I know that there are very few tracks that can provide an ambulance that is staffed with more than a bandage queen, that can transport, have adequate fire equipment, and are staffed with people that know what to do..

I will end with 2 more quotes. When I asked where the fire truck was once the guy points at a 4 wheeler with on bottle...I was like really?.. He says as serious as he could (and he was) Those midgets are small cars and they will have small fires.

This one is off topic but I can not contain myself..Kevin Miller told me once that he was getting complaints about motors, so he ask "Bill ,will you walk around an see which ones look big"

Last time I was at a race in New Jersey it was a All Star race. We couldn't wear shorts, they wanted a cover over the fuel pump , a plate between the seat & fuel tank & alcohol fuel had to be in red jugs. The fuel pump cover was a old oil filter can from that mornings maintenance & plate was a thin piece of aluminum.

Heard from many many sources that there in fact was NO ambulance. It was dispatched from Bradenton proper, about 10 miles away. Sad....

David Mitchell I think you are an idiot!! Straight up! If you want to be a race face then quit watching open wheel racing on dirt and stay on your couch and watch a little NASCAR, Frankly I'm tired of your dumb ass comments and true no knowledge of the sport that is on this site! Goodbye.....
