The "Park" was a great short paved track. When Harvey Tattersall ran the place under his United Stock Car Club banner it was pavement modifieds at their best. Over fifty cars that ran 4 15 lap heats that qualified you to one of two 20 lap semis. A consi and a 50 lap feature. The only other race on a regular Saturday card was an evening ending Figure 8 event. Riverside hosted the All-Star League and also was home to a unique annual event - The Riverside Park 500. Two car teams that traded off by coming in to the infield and tapping the bumper of your teammate, sending him on his way. RP featured a beautiful view across the Connecticut River. Former USAC racer Denny Zimmerman ran there occasionally in his modified days.

Thank you! I was fairly certain the race had been run but could find no proof.[/QUOTE]

The 7 September 1931 race at Altoona was won by Shorty Cantlon. Bill Cummings was second and Chet Miller was third. This is from The Monessen(PA)Daily Independent issue of 8 September 1931. Allan Brown's book, History of America's Speedways, indicates this was the last time the board track was used.

Ascot or any of the old large board tracks.

Would have been awesome to see.

Anyone got any clips of sprints on board tracks?
Chuck

I found a video clip on YouTube of modified action at the 1 1/8 mile Nazareth National dirt track. Enjoy. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KX_-TC9x6mwFor some reason the link won't work. Go to www.youtube.com and type in Racing-Nostalgia in the Search box. Clip is near the top.

Langhorne, Jungle Park and Ascot are gimmes for sure.

Some others for myself: Lil' Springfield, St. Charles, Mo., and Arena Park in Cape Girardeau, Mo. which was where Everet Saylor was killed on the day my dad was born May 31st, 1942. You can still see portions of what was turns one and two in the grass which is now used for parking on the fairgrounds.
