Me and a buddy are making the trip from Tri State Speedway. It's a big event. Find a way to make it work.😃

I realize that he was throwing money around at every thing and was using the track as a draw for his pawn/gun range/rock show complex. His opinion on a successful show may differ from most.

Everyone is acting like USAC has never been to this track which is not true.
That event in 2016 was two-straight nights of Non-Wing/Wing Sprint Car doubleheaders. Both nights were USAC non-points, special event races. That is the only time USAC Sprint Cars have been there. Chad Boespflug won both nights.

The only time midgets have raced at Huset's was 1996. Kenny Irwin Jr. was the winner.

$10,000 to win on night one. $50,000 to win on night two.

It was minimum $1,000 to start each night.

Thanks for the correction. Some of the cobwebs are being moved away. I believe that the owner said that he was pleased with the weekend and it was going to return the next year as a USAC sprint/midget double header. When he said that, I remember thinking that needed to be on my calendar for the next year because I wanted to go watch the midgets.

However, when the November elections (on payday loans reform) went against him, he shut down all of his operations.

Interesting thread. First I have to applaud Mr Wood for taking on such a big project. When it was first announced I was totally in. Considering what we’re getting and the payout I feel the prices are absolutely worth it. We seem to be talking a lot about the sprint cars but remember this is a double header with the midgets. I’m of the opinion that this track will race better wingless than it does with wings and should be awesome for midgets. The facility is as good as it gets so I’m led to believe, it looks that way on TV. Unfortunately due to circumstances out of my control, it’s just not possible this year. I hope it’s successful enough that the powers to be decide to continue it because I will attend next year if I have the resources in place. It’s a shame that some folks don’t want to travel that far from Indiana, but on the other hand it’s a heck of a lot closer for West Coast teams and fans who want to go. For me that’s a fair enough trade. The PPV that someone brought up is interesting also. They mentioned Knoxville being PPV. Well that’s true unless you buy the yearly package in which the Nationals are now included. If you pay monthly you have to pay extra. I hope things don’t change with Flo but you never know. Meanwhile back here in the Capital of Wingless Sprint Cars, we have IMO the closest thing we get to a “Nationals” starting tonight at Kokomo. And Saturday there will be tracks running non wing sprints against it. If we can’t come together on tracks about 2 hours apart for a marquee event, I pretty much feel we’re counting on race fans from other states to make it a success

It has been said in the past that tracks scheduling against Kokomo are attracting cars that would not have gone to Kokomo anyway. Any truth to that?

I'd agree with that, one might say it's about choices where one chooses to race.

I’ve used this analogy before but I think it bares repeating. The world 100 is one of the biggest dirt track races in the world because a lot of tracks shut down so their fans and racers could go. And the racers who didn’t want to try to race went as fans. Now it’s not so much that way anymore but the race is established as the biggest event at ELDORA and probably in the top 3 dirt track races in the world. Here in the non wing meca, we complain that there’s a 20k to win race that interferes with the locals.
