ASCS Canyon Region at Canyon Speedway Park This Weekend!

Lonnie Wheatley, TULSA, Okla. (June 7, 2010) – The chase for the 2010 American Sprint Car Series Canyon Region championship continues this Saturday night with the series second stop of the season at Canyon Speedway Park in Peoria, AZ.

Reigning ASCS Canyon Region champion Charles Davis, Jr., who topped the series last stop at Canyon Speedway Park on March 27, leads the way into Saturday night’s wingless Sprint Car card with three wins in five events thus far this season.

The Buckeye, AZ, driver carries a 50-point advantage into Saturday’s action, with Peoria’s Josh Pelkey holding down the second position by just three markers over Yuma’s Mike Martin, who cracked ASCS Canyon victory lane in the series debut at California’s Perris Auto Speedway on May 22.

Two-time ASCS Canyon Region champion Jeremy Sherman of Surprise, AZ, is currently fourth in points, with Phoenix shoe R.J. Johnson rounding out the current top five.

The balance of the current top ten in ASCS Canyon Region points includes Andrew Reinbold (Gilbert), Stevie Sussex (Laveen), Ronnie Clark (Tucson), Brian Hosford (Gilbert) and 17-year-old Dalten Gabbard (Peoria).

Saturday's ASCS Canyon Region action at Canyon Speedway Park is slated to go green at 7:30 p.m.

Peoria’s Canyon Speedway Park is located 25 miles north of Phoenix on I-17 to Exit 223, then 6.3 miles west. For more information, contact the track at 602-258-7223.

The ASCS Canyon Region is currently slated for 17 overall nights of competition in 2010, including 13 nights in Arizona, a two-night Fourth of July weekend in New Mexico and pair of trips to California’s Perris Auto Speedway.

In its 19th year of sanctioning Sprint Car racing, the American Sprint Car Series brings the best of Sprint Car racing to approximately 100 different tracks throughout 30 states and Canada. Anchored by the Lucas Oil Sprint Car Series presented by K&N Filters, ASCS also consists of ten different Regions throughout the nation.
