I'm looking at a new flash purchase after my Norman 200B took a dive this weekend. I figured I'd see if any of our resident photo guys might be able to shed some light on my next purchase. I'm wondering whether a Canon 600 EX will suffice and do a good job compared to re-upping for a new Norman 200c kit. I'm a Canon guy using a 60D body currently. Thanks for any insight!

Carey, not sure that this is any help, but you can see what I shoot with the top of the line Nikon speedlight. . . of course that might push you back to a Norman. . . . .

What do you consider top of the line Nikon? SB 800? SB-910 AF Speedlight.

To me it depends on what lens you are using. I used a Canon 580 with a 2.8/70-200 lens on a 7D with great results. I did add a quantum external battery pack to the setup, which was an improvement.

Thanks, guys. I'm a retired newspaper photographer who has always enjoyed racing. Would like to start taking pictures of midgets and sprinters. Any tips are greatly appreciated. Likely will be using an 80-200 2.8 on a D300.

I'm mostly using a Canon 70-200 F4.0 lens for the majority of what I do outside of victory lane shots.
Thanks for the advice guys!

If you're not sure what to buy, maybe a rental as a trial before you buy. I've used http://www.lensrentals.com/for-canon and been very happy with their service.
