Midgets Ready To Battle at Montpelier This Saturday, May 7th

Midgets Ready For Round #2 of the Montpelier Motor Speedway Midget Series on Saturday, May 7th
The Montpelier Motor Speedway Midget Series, now in its 5th season, is set to battle for round #2 of the 2016 campaign for the series championship this Saturday, May 7th. The Montpelier Motor Speedway Midget Series presented by the Leaders Edge (Indianapolis, Indiana) is averaging 24 cars per event.

The event will feature the Montpelier’s Midget Series which features full size Midgets and unlimited power plants and allows a platform for other engines including Focus, Ecotech, and Motorcycle powered entries to compete utilizing an unlimited weight break and additional tire width. The Montpelier Motor Speedway Midget Series features an open tire brand and compound rule. The event will also feature a 2nd and seperate trophy dash for the USAC Midwest Thunder Midget series.

The 2016 season opener saw Indy Indoor winner Kyle Schuett make his Montpelier debut leading early and often during the A Main event. Justin Peck used his Montpelier experience and guided the Kenny Irwin Sr. family entry to the top sideto gain the lead with Gage Walker in tow. As Peck and Walker hit lapped traffic, Walker was able to gain the lead coming to the white flag lap leading the only lap that mattered. For the 2015 MMS Midget Champion, Walker, it was his first MMS Midget win. Gage Etgen picked up the USAC Midwest Thunder dash win as the highest finisher. It was Etgen’s first victory at MMS.

The Montpelier Motor Speedway, which began racing in 1903 and hosted its first automobile race in 1915, is one of America’s oldest remaining racing facilities. While the east central Indiana Ό mile clay oval has a historic past, the facility has seen many major modern upgrades the past four seasons including new restrooms and bleachers along with the addition of many safety features such as a new catch fence system along with a new front stretch wall, lighting system, transponder scoring, and corner runoff areas. The Montpelier Motor Speedway commonly competes weekly on Saturday Nights with its popular Modified and Stock Car divisions and is also the host to the popular Montpelier Motor Speedway Midget series.

A big congrats to Scott Orr for picking up the Midget feature event win. Scott is no stranger to the MMS Victory Lane in the UMP Modifieds, but it marked Scott's first Midget win in his his first outdoor Midget start. Alex Watson won a closely contested battle with Gage Etgen to pick up the USAC Midwest Midget Thunder Victory. Indy Indoor winner, Kyle Schuett, is the current points leader after 2 event. The Midgets are back in action on Saturday, May 21.
