I'm old enough to remember Larry O.

This post being about Silver Crown cars and pavement I really don't understand. Why would anyone argue making rules in which the car HAS to be used to run asphalt and pavement (if they chose to run both) would be bad.

Why anyone would argue that having both dirt and pavement races doesn't benefit ANY series by at minimum, attracting more of a fan base I don't get.

Why drivers wouldn't want to run both surfaces I don't get either. I think it has taken a lot away from being a USAC champion in sprints and midgets. Took a lot more talent to win a championship when there were both surfaces involved.

And, it sure isn't as difficult to run the same car on both surfaces like a lot claim. As others stated it was done for many years with no problem. I can remember the Lewis #9 four bar car being pulled out for a pavement race and winning, beating the coil car. Of course, there was a very intelligent and hard working individual turning wrenches on those cars.

Why anyone would argue that USAC helped create, or at least allow the racing in their series become all of this I sure don't understand. There were people in place when this problem began who were smart enough to make decisions where this would not have happened and we would not have this discussion.

When things began getting out of hand there were MANY chances to regain control which never happened. This was before everyone had separate cars for asphalt and dirt.

It only takes going back 20 years and look at a USAC schedule. Just prior to that look at the televised shows, the car counts, and the competition level. Look especially at all of the blue collar people who had jobs and ran silver crown, or any other USAC series successfully.

I think anyone that is honest can see where the problem is, and why it should have been fixed for many years. If anyone thinks 20 or 24 cars even is a successful entry list I beg to differ. Then ask why that is, not hard to figure out.

One thing to add, and I've said it before and I must reiterate, no one thing ever hurt the Silver Crown series more than that stupid car they tried to run on mile and a half tracks. Talk about fixing something that wasn't broke. From my perspective, that could be the biggest mistake in USAC history

Chase, the best post on this topic.as for backitin ,well?????? All around champion should be equally good on both surfaces.the greats were.bryan and kyle were and are greats.no one can argue this.can you say mario andretti.i loved dave steele, but he was a specialist.he would tell you he did not like dirt.dirt, pavement, road courses, hill climbs, all types of cars, etc.think about this.mario andretti won the world championship and ran at salem.how incredible is that.
