One of the best USAC sprint car races I've ever seen was in the late '90s at the 1/3 mile in Beaver Dam. Dave Darland in the Hoffman 69 , Kevin Doty, and Tony Elliot all trading the lead every corner for most of the race.
Wilmot is an hour or so from Chicago, Milwaukee, and Rockford. I'd say it has more to do with that than the facility.
I went to a USAC race there in 1994, so they've also been at it a while.
