I am guessing that since it was held at Brownstown that is why they did that. The double file restarts are pretty standard in dirt late model racing and Brownstown is a late model track. I don't remember if they used this type of restart in past years when the race was held at Twin Cities.

Something different that might just have a place in midget and sprint car racing I don't know. It will be interesting to see if it catches on in open wheel racing or not.

I believe the world of outlaws have been doing double file restarts for a few years now. I also know the MSA up in Wisconsin does a single leader, the rest of the field double file on their restarts. I forget what they call that. But it seems to work. And that's on a track about the same size as brownstown. Much narrower too.

I believe that is referred to as a Delaware Double File restart. I am sure some of the knowledgeable dirt late model fans can set me straight if that isn't correct.

Correct, we use the Delaware double file restarts at all events at Brownstown during the year. Leader chooses either high or low all by himself up front, then we tell the second place car to go in, and third place out, fourth place in, fifth place out...and so forth.

WoO does a normal double file restart, not a Delaware style. The exception is when there is a caution on a restart due to contact where upon the following restart is a single file cone restart. The other exception is if track conditions warrant single file restarts at officials discretion. They are the only organization or track that we see during the year that do it.

Yes the double files are a lot better than the delawares in my opinion. The delawares still let the leader play games like brake checks etc. When the front row is doubled it eliminates 99 percent of the games. Just my opinion from a guy who has done both.

What happens with lapped traffic? Do they fall into position or go to the tail?

I liked it. Sorry mugavin, but I like the leader by himself. He earned the lead, he deserves a reward for it.

It did make for some neat racing.

Leader still does have an advantage. He gets the faster line. He can pick inside or outside he just doesn't get the chance to tear a bunch of cars up behind him.
