Pair of Hewitt's Take Pair of BOSS First's

The Buckeye Outlaw Sprint Series made a pair of stops at two new race tracks. And a pair of men by the name of Hewitt took both wins. Tyler Hewitt scored his first ever tour victory and his first ever Gas City Speedway win on Friday night. One night later, Dallas Hewitt, picked up the victory at Oakshade Raceway. The two drivers are NOT related. However, their names will now be linked in sprint car history from this historic "border wars" weekend.

Friday's action at Gas City saw 28 cars signed in for competition. The fastest qualifers in the 3 heat race groups were Hewitt, Scotty Weir and Dustin Ingle. Heat races were won by Garrett Abrams, Thomas Meseraull and Cole Ketcham. The 12 lap B-Main was won by Anthony D'alessio. A scary moment occured in the B when Michael Roehling took a scary tumble along the front straight and into turn one. He emerged from the car okay, but a little shaken up.

The 25 lap A-Main found Thomas Meseraull on the pole and looking to tie the Gas City record for wins in one season. Cole Ketcham started on the outside front row with Tyler Hewitt and Scotty Weir in row 2. Abrams and series point leader, Matt Westfall, starting from row 3.

At the drop of the green flag, Meseraull set sail for the history books. But another track regular and the BOSS point leader had other thoughts. A classic sprint car race, on a very well prepared facility, found the leader rim riding on the cushion and Hewitt masterfully working the very bottom of the track. He was able to ease his way past for the lead when the action came to a halt for the race's only red flag flew. Cody Gardner took a nasty ride down the front straight wall, and into the darkness outside of turn one. He was able to walk away.

Back under green, Hewitt and Meseraull continued their classic duel. Matt Westfall would find the bottom groove to his liking as well as he rolled up into the battle, right behind Hewitt. Completing lap 22, Westfall was able to split the leaders to make it 3 wide at the start-finish line! Tyler Hewitt would make the last 3 laps some of the best of his career, executing the laps that would carry him to victory as Meseraull barely edged out Westfall for runner-up honors. Ketcham held on for fourth with Garrett Abrams 5th. The rest of the top 10 were Dustin Webber, Korbyn Hayslett, Jacob Gordon, Kory Crabtree and Dallas Hewitt.

On Saturday night, BOSS would bring the first sprint car event to Oakshade Raceway in almost 2 decades. A great field of 28 cars filled the pit area and a packed grandstand rewarded the Henricks family for giving BOSS the opportunity to bring sprint cars back. Heat race wins were claimed by Matt Westfall, Tyler Gunn and Dallas Hewitt. The B-Main event was won by Lee Underwood.

The 20 car / 25 lap main event was brought to green by Tony Main and Tyler Gunn alongside. Dallas Hewitt and Steve Irwin started from row 2 while John Watson and Matt Westfall started from row 3. At the drop of the green flag, it was Tyler Gunn taking the early lead, searching for his first tour win. But like the night before, it was a Hewitt destined for victory lane. This time, it was Dallas Hewitt in the Keen 18 who slipped past Gunn on lap 4 and would never relinquish the lead. The race was stopped once for a red flag on lap 15 when Parker Frederickson and Ryan Barr were involved in an incident with Barr winding up upside down, but okay.

Over the final 10 laps, Hewitt left little doubt that this was his night and Tyler Gunn ran another fantastic race in his limited non wing career to come home runner-up. Matt Westfall continued his consistent season and stretched his point lead with a 3rd place finish. Kory Crabtree and Steve Irwin made up the rest of the top 5. Lee Underwood came from 16th to 6th to get the Bridge Restaurant "Hard Charger" award. Dustin Ingle, Dustin Webber, Luke Hall and Steve Little completed the top 10.

BOSS takes our hats off and extends a big thank you to the management and staff at both Gas City Speedway and Oakshade Raceway for a fantastic weekend. The next tour event will be the prestigioius "Kokomo Smackdown" on Saturday, August 24th. This event will only be open to teams in the top 15 of current tour points OR any driver who has never made a Kokomo Smackdown A-Main in previous years.
