I guess since many of the decisions are made from the tower and with the evolution of technology, you knew this would eventually come:

Lincoln Speedway to Introduce Virtual Flagman for the 2024 Season; Continuing to Bring Innovation to Central PA Racing Scene

Abbottstown, PA (January 24, 2024) – Lincoln Speedway is excited to introduce the virtual flagman to Central PA racing. Starting with the Ice Breaker Weekend, February 24-25, Lincoln Speedway will implement a state of the art virtual flagman system that will include lighting and message boards around the speedway to alert drivers and fans of important situations on the track. This technology has been implemented at tracks around the world and Lincoln Speedway will be the first track to utilize this proven system in Central PA.

In addition to the virtual system, there will be flaggers and safety personnel on the inside of the track in the corners and on the front straightaway. The virtual system will be run from the scoring tower.

“When you take a step back and look at it, we are removing two individuals from a hazardous environment that were an extension of the scoring tower. We are modernizing a system that was already in place,” is how General Manager, Jerry Parrish is looking at the change. “Lincoln was the first track in Central PA to utilize a jumbotron and now other tracks have them and the World of Outlaws bring one on their tour. We are always looking at opportunities to bring innovation to a sport that has been slow to take on change.”

For the first few weeks of the season there will be a flagger in the main flag stand to help adjust to the change and to work through any unexpected situations.

“The safety of the drivers and officials is our number one priority and putting this system in place continues our efforts towards that goal,” shared Parrish.

Lincoln Speedway will kick-off the 2024 season with the Ice Breaker Weekend on February 24 & 25 with racing scheduled at 3PM both days. Both races pay $5,000 to win and are 410 sprint car only shows. Pit gates will open at 12:30PM and Grandstands gates open at 1PM. Adult general admission is $20, student general admission (12-17) is $10 and general admission for kids 11 and under is free. Pit passes are $35.

Already happened, remember 2020 no fans racing Governors Reign and others and even cardboard cutout fans at pro sports?

The definition of virtual is "something that can be done or seen using computers or the internet instead of going to a place, meeting people in person, etc".

What you are descripting was not virtual.

I don’t like the idea. It takes away from the overall experience of going to the races weather your a racer, pit crew, or fan. Not to be a butt head but I hope the idea fails miserably.
