Rader Raids BOSS to Claim the Let's Go 30

A beautiful spring day welcomed a large field of racers and a great turnout of fans to Waynesfield Raceway Park for the 2021 MPD racing BOSS season opener. A strong field of 32 traditional sprint car drivers from seven states signed in to pay tribute to Russell Cook, a longtime, proud supporter of sprint car racing and Waynesfield. On behalf of his daughter and son, $3,500 was added to the main event purse, making it a $3,000 to win / $375 to start payday!

An eventful hot lap / qualifying session was paced by Matt Goodnight with overall fastest qualifying time of 13.862 in group #2. Other group fast qualifiers were Cody White, Landon Simon and Cole Bodine. Cody White claimed the win in TCB Speed heat #1 while Dustin Ingle claimed The Cushion.com heat #2. Korbyn Hayslett won Hoosier Race Tire heat #3 and defending BOSS champion Dallas Hewitt claimed ARP Fasteners heat #4.

An exciting B-Main event saw Saban Bibent with a big lead and well on his way into the main event, when a mechanical issue bit the Cincinnati throttle pusher, sending him upside down and ending a fine run. Paul Dues, from nearby Minster, was able to win the 12 lap MSD Ignitions B-Main.

A beautiful field of 22 cars rolled out onto the Auglaize County bullring and race announcer, Gerry Keysor, was able to get a hearty "Let's GO!!" from the crowd. As always, the MPD BOSS tour drivers executed a perfect 4 wide salute to Russ Cook and all the race fans as the 22 warriors rode their trusty steeds off into the night for 30 laps of battle. Polesitter Korbyn Hayslett showed the way early and looked poised to pull of his first ever BOSS win. Dustin Ingle, Landon Simon and Drew Rader stayed within striking distance as the laps clicked away. Ingle was able to work his way to the runner-up spot and began to pressure for the lead. Ingle finally wrestled the lead away on lap 17 as a few laps later, Hayslett slowed to a stop with mechanical issues.

Back under green, Ingle looked like he was on his way to his first Waynesfield win, but 2 red flags would slow the action late. Toby Alfrey had a mechanical failure in the steering gear and pounded the turn 4 wall. Thankfully, he was okay. Ricky Peterson, driving the Stan Courtad 9x, got into the turn 4 wall, executed an end-over-end flip, landing on his wheels and continuing on his way, driving the car back to the pit area. A thunderous applause erupted from the crowd in approval of such a rare occurrence.

In the final laps, Rader was able to get by Ingle for the win. Rob Caho, from Rush City, Minnesota, had a great run to come home 3rd while Luke Hall and Landon Simon rounded out a very stout top 5. Cody White, Matt Westfall, Paul Dues, Kyle Simon, and Steve Irwin completed a tough top 10. Waynesfield promoter, Shane Helms and the BOSS staff would like to thank the teams, drivers and fans for their support and patience on a wild opening night!

The April 17th race, scheduled for Plymouth Speedway in Indiana, has been cancelled due to the resurfacing of the race track. The next scheduled event is May 7-8 doubleheader at I-96 Speedway in Michigan.

Can't wait until April 17th for BOSS @ Plymouth, IN! It should be another barnburner.
