Good show. I couldn't believe admission was only $15.

40 midgets on a Sunday night. Surprising since I have read on here many times that midget racing is in bad shape.

I think that was done in reference to their normal fans. GA seating for a regular Saturday show is $7 dollars.

Sweet Springs is set up as a club and is promoted by a board of directors. This was definitely one of the biggest shows that they have ever had.

I drive thru Sweet Springs on I-70 twice every summer. Did anybody check out the guy selling classic cars right off the highway? I think he might have half of a 1950s Buick or Olds hanging on his outside wall.....I stop & check them out every time, but can't afford anything....
How was the track? Little, right?

In some places midget racing is in bad shape the east coast is one of them. The ARDC group used to have full fields and good racing less than five years ago

Less than 5 years ago, people figured midgets were on life support. Things happen in cycles. With Kutztown and other things looking positive, hopefully midgets will come back in the east.

The ARDC wasn't near life support five years ago, of course not all cars were worthy of competeing with a national series but the fields were strong and the racing was good. A few years ago the car counts started dropping into the teens and now we are lucky to have a dozen cars show now. I'm glad we have teams that can compete with USAC but we always had some of those types of teams. Today we might have one or three more teams that can compete with the national guys but I think it came at a heavy price for the racers that can't afford to compete at a national level and have given up on midget racing.
I'm hoping next years ARDC schedule will find some smaller tracks to attract more teams. I would rather see midgets at a track like Kutztown (if it could happen) rather than big half miles and that is only due to the decreasing car counts

Midgets are making a comeback in Missouri it seems (as is traditional sprints with Valley Speedway having gotten the ball rolling, WAR coming from the formation of teams, and Casey Shuman taking WAR to a whole new level). There were several factors in the car count.

Several of the POWRI and USAC midget regulars got their start at Sweet Springs.

It a USAC show with USAC having been in Nebraska the 2 previous nights. Also a factor was that POWRI had a 2 National Tour 2 day show Friday and Saturday about 30 miles away at Grain Valley, Mo with close to 40 cars each night. (Valley usually has close to that many if not more whenever the POWRI National tour comes to Valley)

The fact that you could throw a blanket over the 1st 4 to 7 cars most of the race just goes to verify the smaller the track the better the racing. Hopefully this will turn into more midget shows at Sweet Springs.

I figured my sarcasm would get different opinions. I knew the reasons there were 40 cars there.

I can't think of one USAC midget regular who got their start at Sweet Springs.

In my opinion all that's needed for a good midget race is the Keith Kunz stable, the Clauson/Marshall stable, FMR cars (Brady Bacon for those slow to catch on), Boat cars, Petry cars, Dooling 63, and Tyler Thomas. Any more than that is just a waste of time and track moisture.

Your right, regular would probably not be the right description. Although that may change. And due to location most have leaned more toward POWRI depending on the team they drive for. Some may just be surprised at some of the drivers that have gone through Sweet Springs in their career.
My comments about car count in in general about the state of open wheel racing in the area and not directed at any one person, not everyone on the board may be aware of it. My apologies if you thought I was stepping on your toes. Your reference to KKM did give me a smile though considering.
