2018 Season Opener at Fremont May 5th

After losing the scheduled season opener two weeks ago to mother nature, the Buckeye Outlaw Sprint Series is ready to get 2018 underway this Saturday, May 5th at Fremont Speedway. Known as the "Track That Action Built" it is located at the historic Sandusky County Fairgrounds. A seat under the covered wooden grandstand is a trip back in time to when most of auto racing took place on fairground horse tracks.

For sprint car fans, this weekend's event could be a paradise. Joining the "Last True Outlaws" of the BOSS traditional non wing sprints will be the FAST 410 winged sprint cars and the FAST 305 winged sprint cars in a showdown versus the 360's!

Dustin Smith from Russiaville, Indiana picked up his second series crown in 2017, tying Shawn Westerfeld of Guilford, Indiana as the only repeat titlist. Smith returns in search of becoming the first 3 time champion. He will be back in the pilot's seat of Lou Gagliardi's Dom's Gulf sponsored #77.

The 2014 series champion, Mike Miller from Wapakoneta, Ohio, plans a full time assault on the tour in hopes of making it a 3 way tie with a repeat championship. Last year's 4th and 5th place points drivers, Chad Wilson and Steve Little, are also returning to chase the 2018 crown.

As always, a full 15 teams and drivers plan to follow the tour full time. And every season, the field gets tougher! Other drivers returning full time include Paul Dues, Matt Cooley, Cody Gardner, Bob McMillen, Buddy Lowther, Kirk Jeffries, Joe Liguori and Carmen Perigo. New to the tour are Ty Tilton, Ted Hines, and Kyle May.

As always, expect a great field of local challengers , as well as some Indiana and Michigan wingless specialists! Certainly some drivers will be doing double duty as well.

It is also "Local Food Bank Night". Fans and teams are encouraged to bring nonperishable food items to be donated to local food banks.

On raceday, gates will open at 4 pm with racing action at 7. Adult general admission is $20 with seniors admitted for $18 and students for $15. Children 10 and under are admitted free in general admission. Pit passes will be $30 each.

For teams competing with BOSS, there are no membership fees or entry fees. The tire rule is open and there is no minimum weight rule. For teams doing double duty, you MUST REMOVE THE WING SLIDERS. This is a safety precaution for you and the drivers around you. Mufflers are NOT required on the BOSS wingless sprints. We will be using the yellow transponders and they will be available for rent from the track for $5. The format will be the standard BOSS pill draw for heat lineups.

The payout for this event is the standard as follows: 1500, 900, 700, 600, 500, 450, 400, 375, 350, 325, 300, 290, 280, 270, 260, 250, 250, 250, 250, 250.

If we have 29 cars or less, we start 20 in the main event. If we have 30-39 cars, we will start 22 in the main event. If we have 40 or more, we will start 24 cars in the main event.

Heat Race Sponsors will be providing $100 per heat paid to the top 4 finishers in the amounts of 40, 30, 20, 10. These sponsors are TCB Speed, American Racer, Hoosier Racing Tire, and All Pro Cylinder Heads of Johnstown, Ohio.
