On Saturday October 15th the 21st Annual Rushville Vintage & Modern Race Car Benefit Show will be held at the Rush County Fairgrounds in Rushville, Ind. This annual event began in 1990 as a radio show with local racing personalities and has evolved into a local tradition.

Many current and former drivers and team owners are expected to be on hand, allowing the visitors the opportunity to talk racing. A wide array of vintage race cars, TQ midgets and sprint cars are expected to be on display. This show allows the racing community to give back to the fans and at the same time allow fans an up close look at racing history.

In keeping with the tradition that began with the inaugural show, proceeds from this years event will be donated to the Injured Drivers Fund, which is used to help offset the medical expenses of drivers injured while racing in the state of Indiana.

Please RSVP Sam Hankins at (765) 825-5881 by September 15th to reserve a spot if bringing a show car.

From today's Rushville Republican (http://rushvillerepublican.com/local...date-announced)
Contact: frank.denzler@rushvillerepublican.com or (765) 932-2222 ext. 106

The local vintage and modern race car show will be held for the 21st year from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Oct. 15 in the RushShelby Energy Building on the Rush County Fairgrounds.

The original organizers of the event have changed, but the tradition continues.

Scott Murray Bate, Russ Hankins and Ray Leisure began the event to give the average race fan the opportunity to rub elbows with current and former race drivers and crew member while getting a brief behind-the-scenes look at racing.

At the same time, it provides an open forum for drivers to share racing stories with fans and to visit with one another.

The day also allows fans to look at racing roots and see the progression and development of cars through the years.

A silent and live auction will be held throughout the one-day event with the proceeds used to help offset the cost of the 2012 show and to support the Injured Drivers Fund, which supports injured drivers and their families.

Former Indy 500 drivers Mel Kenyon and Butch Wilkerson have already confirmed their attendance.

Past shows have featured not only dirt track racers but also cars that ran in previous Indianapolis 500s; a dragster made an unexpected appearance in 2009.

According to one of the organizers, Chad Hankins, this year's show will be one of the best and largest ever and is free to the public.

This is a very neat show with endless fascinating stories about racing and great food. Plus it's for a great cause that supports Indiana drivers. Is there an address for those of us who will not be able to attend that we can mail a donation? Thanks to the Wilson's and Hankin's and others who are keeping this wonderful show going.

Some ideals for next year, <1>try havng a racing around table, maybe former and current indy 500 drivers, current midget and sprint drivers and local drivers, talk about the future and current of racing or a Q/A thing . <2> try to get the guys that races Modfieds or Late modles in area, bring there cars out to.<3> diecast show , <3> have some type of autograph thing,<4> talk too the local tracks about donating tickets to a race <5> see if any series would donate something like t-shirts ,<6> see if IMS would help out in anyway , <7> have a racing swap meet in the sale barns, <8> post the show info on different forums and maybe have the local radio station out there. I dont want to see this show too end. We need fans and drivers come out and support this show.
