I’d hazard a guess that the supermarket in Fairbury does a few weeks worth of business in the 3 days of the Prairie Dirt Classic WoO late model show. It is an example of what can happen when a town supports a track.

The 2 times I went to their mid winter winged race, I spent the nights at el cheapo Motel 6 & ate at the KILLA Mexican restaurant across the street. I'm sure the rest of the many snowbirds in attendance spent their $$$ in similar ways. plus at the Indian Casino right next to track (Tribe owns the track too) That was a nice break from the cold, I wish they'd bring it back...

We race on a travel circuit so we're traveling, we stop to fill up when we get to the town near the track, we may pick up some other stuff too we tell them we're here for the race so they know. We're not the only ones stopping at a quick rip station or fast food joint I see a lotta teams we race w/ stopping places.
Yrs ago (95?) I read a story in a Circle Track magazine USA TODAY did a study of Daytona area. The 2 NAPCAR races alone brought in an estimated 25 million dollars into the local economy. Doubt I-70 will do that but I'm sure it will bring some money.

It is interesting that you bring this up Jonr. Indiana university at Kokomo is planning on doing a impact study at Kokomo this year. I think when it is released that it will make all tracks look good. I don't know if they will be ready by this weekend's Kokomo Grand Prix, but they will be around getting data all summer. Please take the time to answer their questions, if you can. I think these numbers will be very interesting.
