I'm thinkin' McCarl is actually a pretty cool guy, if you ever get the chance to meet and talk to him (we did). When I asked, he said he would run more, sans wing, but there was no way he could make a living at it. Gee, where have we heard that before?
I thought the wave deal with Schitz was funny as hell when we heard about it:O::thumb

I met him briefly at Kokomo a couple years ago and he was pleasant enough, but overall he's just a little too cocky for my taste.

I grew up on Winged sprints, and travelled with a team for a couple of years too. I thought the sun rose and fell on winged sprint cars. That held true until I went to Kokomo about ten years ago. I saw real racing for the first time in years. I drive past alot of race tracks to get to Kokomo, since I am from Michigan. The non wing cars actually pass each other! Probably the neatest part of non wing racing is being able to see the driver sawing on the wheel. I also think that the talent pool runs much deeper in the non-wing ranks. I will still watch a wing race, but only on tv.

Regarding Tmac. I think Tmac is a real racer, and would probably do well in about anything. He has put up some great drives at Knoxville over the years.

It appears to me that most of the non wing guys use the best saftey equipment available. If a guy is complaining about the cost of a HANS, he shouldn't be racing. I am quite surprised that arm restraints are not mandatory in WOO racing. The last wing show I went to (2007 IRA at Lasalle) I actually saw one of the guys get out of a car in a suit so thread bare he had duct tape on his backside. Yeah, apparently they now have fireproof duct tape.

Back to the wing versus non-wing. This board is called Indiana Openwheel, are there any tracks in Indiana that still run a regular wing program? Didn't think so.
