The 2015 USAC HPD season is drawing to a close, as the Midwest Thunder dirt series has one weekend of race action remaining. The HPD series is co-sanctioning a 2-day event at Jackson County Speedway (Jackson, Ohio) on Friday August 28th, and Atomic Speedway (Chillicothe, Ohio) on Saturday August 29th in partnership with the Southern Ohio Lightning Mini Sprint Association. For this weekend only, the SOL mini sprint association will allow cars running alcohol, and an open tire rule for Friday, with Hoosiers required for Saturday. The series is welcoming all HPD-legal midgets and area mini sprint racers to these races, featuring competitive non-wing midget racing action at two of southern Ohio’s premier dirt track facilities.

In order to provide full fields to promoters and competitors, USAC HPD Midwest Thunder Series elected to partner with area mini sprint/lightning sprint associations to co-sanction a series of dirt non-wing races for the 2015 season. By co-sanctioning the races, both the HPD series and the participating mini sprint association maintain enforcement of their own rules, including membership and point championships.

Four races have been held year to date. The first race, held at Waynesfield Raceway Park on June 6th and co-sanctioned by the American Mini Sprint Association, was won by Rod Henning, followed by Gage Etgen and Chase Dunham, with Corey Bedwell receiving the hard charger award for advancing 10 positions. Alex Watson was the top HPD car, recovering from an early race flip to finish 12th. Twenty-nine cars entered.

Henning was victorious again when HPD/AMSA action moved to Limaland Speedway on Friday, July 24th, followed by Gary Campbell and Ty Tilton. HPD racers Watson and Jacob Stickle were 11th and 14th, respectively out of the 21 car field. The series returned to Waynesfield Raceway the following night as part of the Hewitt Classic, with 22 cars making the call. Henning made it three for three, with Brad Racer and Nick Daugherty taking the 2nd and 3rd spots. Leading the HPD cars was Watson in 8th, and Stickle in 12th.

On August 8th the HPD series partnered with the Midwest Mini Sprint Association for a race at Plymouth Speedway on the 3/8th mile track. Andy Bradley was victorious, holding off Etgen and Watson, with additional HPD racers Stickle in 6th and Jacob Taylor in 8th.

The HPD Series would like to thank race promoters Danny Kelly (Waynesfield), Gene Frankart (Lima), Sara Tarlton (Plymouth), Chris Smalley (Jackson) and Brad McGown (Atomic) for you support and willingness to include the midgets on your 2015 schedule.

Races at both Jackson and Atomic feature a $500 to win, $100 to start purse. Pit passes are $30 each night, with no entry fees. Hot laps begin at 7 on Friday, and 6 on Saturday. Contact USAC Series Coordinator Chuck Taylor at 937-681-0166 for more information.

Tire rule is RR only. HPD will have used Hoosier SP2 82s available this weekend - PM me if you are interested.

What ever happened to the just "show up and race" times, damn rules have ruined the fun in racing, (and made it more expensive)

Tire rules were dictated by tracks, Jackson was willing to waive its American Racer rule, Atomic is requiring the Hoosiers.

Wish atomic would do the same and waive the tire rule for this race only they would get a lot better car count if they did as it stands my 2 cars will either stay home or just go to 35 raceway and race instead
