I feel this is somewhat circumstantial... If you're at one of the premier sprint tracks (GC,L'Burg,Kokomo, LPS, Bloomington) then you could get away with either 3 or 4 heats because the level of talent that tends to gravitate to those tracks makes for better racing IMO now if it's Plymouth, Paragon, or Flora I'd go with a higher car count to increase the probability of action.

In regards to passing points.. They have no place in racing, period.

What about the # of laps? 8 laps? 10 laps? 12 laps?

Personally I feel a little cheated after a 8 lap heat...

for me and scoring purposes i go 3 heats of 8 with 24 cars..you could do 4 heats of 6 but thats pushin it..depending on track conditions with 18 cars depends on the heats..3 heats of 6 splits the field up better..

If we're not going to give the drivers a chance to qualify... Then passing points should be used.

If Jon Stanbrough starts 10th in a heat race because his pill draw was terrible and then finishes 5th. He should be rewarded with passing points.

Passing points aren't hard to follow.
Each position finish is separated by 7 points.
1.5 pts per position

They are hard as hell to follow and as a fan, I don't think I should have to score. The announcers sure as hell aren't telling who the top point getter are and after four or five heats. NOBODY HAS A CLUE except. Well Stanbrough passed four cars. Should be up there somewhere..

Im not against passing points. Creates good racing, However every race I've been too that has that format you don't know who's starting the feature where until they actually line up.

As it should be... Sit back, eat some popcorn and enjoy the races.
