Hartford, MI is the track I was thinking of.....and so was Berlin.

I think pairing the SC with a support class could be good and bad. I mean it makes the track, especially the miles, go away quicker. For example, the mods this weekend probably didnt help the track. However on the flip side idk how much they really made it one lane because there were only a handful.

At Eldora you have sprints and midgets with them and the racing is pretty dang good. I think Terre Haute would be ok to have mods with them to allow the track to widen out and not be one lane.

I think there is a fine line with support classes. Not enough cars and the track wont go away enough to have good racing, but too many cars and the track goes away and rubbers up and then racing sucks. JMO

What kind of tracks do the BB and Sportsman Mods run on?

The reason they don't run at Knoxville or Syracuse is the races were not profitable. I was at both places the racing was very good. At knoxville the race was great, but after the race local fans were complaining to Cappy about how slow those "slugs" were going. A lot of tracks would work, but the tracks have to want the show. I doubt if they have turned down any dates. I know if I was a promoter and I was reading this thread, I would probably pass on spending my money on a SC race.

Excellent post. Many people think that there is a conspiracy against the SC cars. The truth is that people vote with thier buts, and SC races do not put enough buts in the seats. If a promoter could make money booking SC races, they would.

Once again, I ask the question, If you knew that you were going to pay $30 dollars to watch a touring series race which series would you pick? For most people on this forum, USAC Sprints, USAC/POWRI midgets, WOO Sprints would be at the top. SC cars would be last by a long shot.

The Silver Crown race at Berlin was poorly attended. Really good race but no crowd. The same for the Milwaukee Mile.

I was watching the Autosport Radio show once that's hosted in Speedway by Don Kay and this one time he had as guests Steve Chassey and Bill Vukovich II. They were discussing USAC screwing up the Silver Crowns at the time and they'd gone back to the old car, and when it came to money Vukovich said back when he won at DuQuoin in the 1970s it paid him something like $7000 to win...and it more or less still does, while obviously today $7000 doesn't go as far. That alongside lack of TV coverage (which would get more money into the sport, I don't understand why a bunch of USAC races are not taped and then put on Speed TV tape delay, nothing else it exposes your teams and drivers and Speed certainly has dead air coverage during the weekdays and the winters to fill) is why Silver Crown racing suffers.

There's three issues here:

1.) A racetrack deciding to pay the USAC sanctioning fee to host such an event.
2.) The awards money the track offers.
3.) Fans interested enough to buy tickets to cover the aforementioned costs in 1 and 2.

USAC probably should've asked their Silver Crown teams the question ahead of time "we are being offered money to run ethanol, we can run ethanol and awards money goes up x% or we can stay at methanol and awards money stay flat" and gotten feedback to it. Since racefans and team owners b*tch about everything to begin with, at least if after a few events some team owners grumbled, USAC could tell them "well, you agreed to it ahead of time".

When I'd go up to the Richmond Indycar race they'd run as the support race during the late afternoon and there'd be a few thousand in the stands for the Silver Crown race (with the Indycar attendance that night roughly in the 40k's).

The Pikes Peak and Nazareth tracks have been closed down by ISC. Both tracks held Silver Crown races and other USAC races but no more. The Memphis track is gone.

Other tracks that held Silver Crown races that are gone: Minn. State Fair, Tulsa, OKC, Flemington, Raceland Speedway, Tampa.

The Tulsa State Fair track is still there, although the track configuration that was used back in the 80's is gone. I think they run pony races there for a short time each year now. I think the issue with the track regarding the last round of 2 SC races there a few years ago was the type of dirt/sand that was present which caused all kinds of problems. Other than that, it's a nice facility, huge old school grandstand. I thought I read somewhere thast the Pikes Peak track is still there also?

The Pikes Peak track is still there but no professional races can be held. All of the grandstands are gone.

Here is an interesting link about the Michigan State Fair mile and some really neat pics. The grandstand is gone now but an outline of the original track is still present.

Bridgeport in New Jersey is a fast wide 5/8's that I think would work well for the Silver Crown. There was even some talk of a race there a couple years ago. Also Hagerston has held SC races in the past too.
