Hamilton finds a new way to win CMC feature at Florence Speedway
Matt Hamilton from Aurora Indiana would pick up his second U.S. Race Gear Cincinnati Modified Championship presented by Gabbard's Mt. Orab Ford and B&B Auto Care feature of the season Saturday Night at Florence Speedway. It was his career 10th CMC victory but probably his most adventurous. Hamilton caught Pete Holt and Weasel Rhodes who were battling for the lead and made a move across the bottom of the track that had him lose the handle on his Diamond Chassis. Pete Holt would make contact with Hamilton dislodging the rear bumper on Hamilton's car. As the rest of the field dodged both Hamilton and his rear bumper, he was able to keep the 9H rolling and the caution flew to retrieve the bumper. Under track rules, only cars that come to a stop are sent to the tail so Hamilton would restart back at the front of the field. Hamilton would have no more issues and would drive to the win followed by Holt, Rhodes, Ray Branscum and Steve King. Hamilton may have 2 wins but Scotty Kincaid has been more cosistent. Even with no wins he holds a 2 point lead over Hamilton in the point chase as well as leading the chase for the Lightning Bonus for the top Lightning driver in the point standings. Moler, Lawrenceburg and Florence will all be in action this weekend as well as Bruchcreek which will join the CMC in July. The region has received record rainfalls in the past month. Only 4 of the 17 scheduled CMC races have taken place and even those events were only pulled off with an extreme amount of work by promoters and sometimes luck. With that the CMC is extending the registration deadline to May 15th. After this date you can still register but drivers who register before that date will receive bonus points for any previous races. This will not be extended again no matter what the weather does. For more info visit www.cincinnatimodifiedchampionship.com Sponsor highlight this week is Gabbards Mt. Orab Ford and Mercury. They continue to support the Modified division at Moler Raceway Park and wanted to add to that by supporting the C.M.C. Gabbard’s Mt Orab Ford-Mercury was established in 1976 by Ralph and Jean Gabbard. They offer years of honest, dependable sales and service, with the best prices around. Still family owned, They are proud to be among the top dealers in the country in customer loyalty and sales and service satisfaction, including being an eight time winner of the Ford President’s Award. They were among the first dealers in the country to be Blue Oval certified. No pressure, no gimmicks, no hassles. If you buy a car in the month of May from them and are a CMC fan we will throw in some apparell and race passes if you contact us ahead of time. This is only while supplies last and you can contact us through the website.
