Going to knoxville for the first time.. Jw how much tickets are for the 7th-10th??

Be prepared for a hell of a show and to eat a lot of food. Make sure you go to the hall of fame and museum and if you like bbq you must eat at the Rib shack. I’ve been for last 2 years and am going again next year. It is a blast. Do u have lodging arranged yet? If not get started on that soon as the surrounding towns will be booked for hotels.

Even if you can't find somewhere close to stay, plan to drive out to Knoxville mid morning Wednesday or Thursday and walk around the parking lot of the Goodwill store to the N of the Speedway. Several of the teams (Tony Stewart Racing, Brian Brown, Jason Johnson Racing among them) park their rigs in the area and prep the cars before moving everything to the infield for their race night. It is interesting to see all the prep work, see the cars up close and watch all the activity. Just be sure to keep your head on a swivel because there is a lot of 4 wheelers, bikes, etc. moving around. As others have said, the Hall of Fame Museum is a MUST!! If you like tenderloins, there is a food trailer that will be to the S of the Main Grandstand that has GREAT tenderloins, but be hungry!!

No, it's not a cheap trip, but it is a lot of fun, and something worth doing. We'll be there again this August, for the 7th year in a row.

They radically jack up hotel prices in Knoxville for that week, I think its usually at least $200/ nite
I stay at Motel 6 in Des Moines, "el cheapo" & an easy 35 minute drive....
Its fun, the whole town is filled with sprint car fans
& it coincides with Perseid meteor showers. On the drive home, I usually find a nice empty area of cornfield (pretty much everywhere!) no light pollution, pull over & watch the show!
Don't drive drunk, police are looking for that....

I never have tried to stay in Knoxville, I have always stayed in the out laying areas. Des Moines was always good when I went with my wife. There were things for her to do. I would recommend attending the parade on Saturday morning. It is a great combination of small town life and the race. One of the local radio stations will do a pre-race show every night before the race. It is always interesting listening to the radio show.

There’s plenty of places around the Des Moines airport to stay and that’s about a 40 minute drive to the track. Or you can camp if that’s something you’re in to.

From a long time friend, who never missed it for many years, it was then, open season on sprint cars everywhere, he said you couldn't believe the action on the streets, as crews and driver tested on the street, he said there was no time it was quiet, you could watch sprint cars anytime, day and night. I never went, but somehow wish I had, I'm sure times have changed, but I have been to Florida, in the old days, during bike week, if it was anything like that, no one would believe what went on. Bob

I think the extracurriculars have calmed a bit, but you will still see sprinters on the streets being pushed to the track for each night's racing program from the various business parking lots they are "pitted in" during the week. It is a cool sight to behold.

There is plenty of the after hours entertainment at the Dingus if you are looking for that. I don't stay around for that as I head back to the hotel when the races are done.

For some, that might work better than Viagra!
