FEATURE: $1,500 added

We are very fortunate to have three sponsors answer our request for a Feature Sponsorship at $500. In view of the fact that we received a total of three $500 checks we are able to add $1,500 to the feature purse. It is outlined below. The top three who will don the Podium tonight will receive their cash prizes along with the commemorative medallions for themselves and their car owners. The presentations will take place at the start finish line and will receive their awards from members of the Marvel Family.

The three major sponsors, at some point, played a major part in the lives of the Marvel family. Bill, Sr. was General Manager at the Pocono International Raceway with President and C.E.O. Dr. Joseph R, Mattioli, and his family, in the 70s. The Pocono Foundation donated $500.

In the late 60s Bill Marvel was the P.R. Director for Sports Headliners, Inc. and worked closely with client Mario Andretti and previous to that covered many of Mario’s victories for National Speed Sport News as well as the family paper, Charger Auto Racing News. This included his first USAC Sprint win which came at the Salem Speedway in a 99lap Joe James/Pat O’Connor Memorial. (The flag came one lap too soon.). Mario and Dee Ann personally donated $500.

In the mid 60s Bill assisted Don Smith when he managed the Terre Haute Action Track. Bill sold program ads, reserved parking spots, tickets and anything else Don had for him. The First Financial, Corporation of Terre Haute, Indiana donated $500. In addition you will note that Mr. Smith co-sponsored the Semi-Feature for $100 and two $30 lap prizes.
