BOSS 2nd Ever Winged Event Set for Montpelier
The Montpelier Motor Speedway is set to play host to just the second ever WINGED BOSS sprint car event this Saturday, August 18th. Built for horse racing in 1903, this fairground half mile oval first hosted auto racing in 1915. The now quarter mile oval first began hosting the BOSS tour in 2014. The annual wingless races have been won by Robert Ballou (2014), Shane Cottle (2015), rained out in 2016, and Thomas Meseraull (2017). Every event featured a large field of cars and a very well prepared race track. With more than 7 years of traditional wingless sprint car racing under the BOSS banner, the 2018 season has featured the series venturing into the winged side of the sport. The inaugural event at Atomic Speedway on May 12th saw 27 cars in attendance. A similar field is expected for round 2 with a VERY unique mixture of former All Star drivers, some Ohio wing veterans, some BOSS non wing veterans, and a few non wing drivers making their first EVER winged starts. For Montpelier Motor Speedway, it has been 13 years since the ground pounding 410 winged sprint cars showered the fans with clay. Previous winners in four visits are Kraig Kinser with 2 wins, while Kelly Kinser and Chad Blonde have one win each. The BOSS/Montpelier pairing has seen great success the last few years and both parties look to translate that into the winged sprints with this annual event. Unlike the traditional wingless tour, the winged BOSS events will have a tire rule. All cars must be on all 4 Hoosier Racing Tires. The left rear tires must be the "H" series national spec tire. The right rear can be the "H" series tire, but we will also allow the "Medium" right rear, as well as the W18. Any 360 or 305 teams may also run their spec right rear for their respective tours. Also, wings must be flat top wings with a 2" wicker. Finally, cars must weigh 1400 pounds with the driver after the event. No mufflers are required. The full purse is as follows for the main event: 1) $3,000 2) $1,500 3) $1,000 4) $700 5) $600 6) $550 7) $500 8) $475 9) $450 10) $425 11) $400 12) $380 13) $360 14) $340 15) $320 16) $300 17) $300 18) $300 19) $300 20) $300 All cars not starting the main event but who compete in the program will be guaranteed $100 tow money. As is typical with BOSS, if 30 cars or more sign in, 2 additional cars will be added to the main event lineup. There are NO ENTRY FEES or membership fees with BOSS. Hawkins Speed Shop of Richmond, Indiana has stepped in to help our drivers. For teams who compete at Montpelier on August 18th AND sign in to compete at Route 44 Speedway on September 1st, will be eligible for a drawing for a free drum of clear methanol. We hope you will make plans to attend this VERY historic first time event! Below are details about Montpelier Motor Speedway and this race. I'll be driving over for this event. As I've stated elsewhere, it will be interesting to see if the Indiana winged drivers will support this event like I'm hoping/expecting they will.
