Rico Abreu Joins Keith Kunz Motorsports in 2012

PETERSEN MEDIA: Fresh off of an impressive 2011 rookie campaign driving 360 and 410 winged sprint cars, Rico Abreu is excited to announce he will be joining Keith Kunz Motorsports and compete in the USAC National Midget tour in 2012.

The St. Helena, California product recently competed in the Kunz camp at the 2012 Chili Bowl and did not disappoint on lookers.

Abreu tallied a seventh place finish on his qualifying night before winning a “B” on Saturday and transferring into the 55-lap feature event where he tallied a 21st place finish.

“I’m really excited to get the chance to compete at the National level in 2012,” said an excited Abreu.

The Keith Kunz team will feature Abreu, and reigning USAC Drivers Champion/USAC Midget Champion Bryan Clauson.

“Teaming with BC will be really beneficial,” explained Abreu. “He’s been strong in anything he has hopped in the last few years, so it will nice to have someone else to watch and talk to.”

Abreu will have a busy 2012 as he still plans to pilot his Abreu Vineyards/Kaeding Performance No.89 sprinter out west when his schedule permits.

“The USAC Schedule is busy, but I’m excited to race with my Kaeding team also,” said Abreu. “We had a really good trip down under and I’m hoping to pick up our first win this season.”

Overall Rico’s schedule is shaping up to be an aggressive and busy one, that will have the youngster making stops all over the country so he can continue to grow as a driver and show his skills to a variety of audiences.

“As a driver it’s going to be a great experience to see some new venues and drive different types of cars this year,” continued Abreu. “I’m looking forward to working with Keith Kunz, Pete, and Kris, who are three very focused, and knowledgeable individuals.”

On championship night in Ocala, we had run well and qualified for the outside pole alongside BC. We were fast and very excited. After our Qualifier, Coleman said, "something is wrong with the motor. It loses power on the top end". After determining that we had broke a rocker arm shaft and did not have a replacement, it was decided to unload the Back up and start last.

We were thrashing to get everything ready. I was putting fuel in the car and looked up to see Rico talking to Brian, getting instructions and went to work changing tires and shocks on Coleman's car. He jumped right in, never said anything just hustled his butt off to help get us ready. When the car was ready, he was gone. Never asked for anything, not even a Thanks. So, Thanks Rico..

Fine young man and well deserving.. We wish him the best.
