Chapple Wins 5th In A Row at Lernerville ; Westfall Stops The Streak at PPMS

The Pennsylvania doubleheader weekend never disappoints when the MPD Racing BOSS tour comes to town. Isaac Chapple continued to rewrite the BOSS history book claiming the 25 lap / $2,000 to win main event at the legendary Lernerville Speedway Friday night. This was his 5th straight tour victory, a feat never before attained in the tour's 11 seasons to date. However, one night later, 2019 tour champion, Matt Westfall, stopped the streak by claiming the 25 lap main at Pittsburgh's Pennsylvania Motor Speedway.

Friday night's action found 22 sprint cars signed into 3 heat races. Qualifying in the groups were led by Carmen Perigo, Ricky Lewis and Dustin Ingle. Lewis laid down the overall fastest lap with a 15.387 lap. Heat races were won by Perigo, Lewis and Steve Little. Some excitement in the heats found 5th in points, Saban Bibent, taking a wild ride in turn one during heat 2. Then, in heat 3, Rick Holley executed a wild series of flips off turn 4. Thankfully, both drivers walked away, Bibent done for the night and Holley moving into the 4K car of Bill Kiley for the main event.

Carmen Perigo grabbed the early lead from his pole starting position in the main event that would see three caution flags. Outside front row starter, Isaac Chapple was able to get around Perigo and set sail for his incredible 5th straight BOSS win. It was Matt Westfall, racing from 8th to 2nd, but falling just short, yet setting the stage for the next night. Carmen Perigo held on for 3rd with Mike Miller 4th and Jesse Vermillion scoring his first career top 5 BOSS finish. Ricky Lewis electrified the fans with incredible slide jobs racing back to the front after being forced off the track and falling as far back as 13th, then charging to 6th. Justin Owen, Darin Gallagher, Brandon Spithaler and Cody White rounded out the top 10.

On Saturday at Pittsburgh, heavy attrition from the night before, couple with a nearby winged event keeping locals away, only 16 cars sign in to try to tame the Monster Half Mile at PPMS. And the monster DID eat some race cars.

Ventura, California's Ricky Lewis was again fast time overall leading group 1 with Carmen Perigo pacing the field in group 2. Lewis' 18.564 lap was an average speed of 121.202 mph. Parker Frederickson was impressive in winning heat race one while Isaac Chapple tamed the Monster in heat 2. During heat race one, Lewis got a little too close to the steel guardrail, then took a nasty series of barrel rolls through turn 2. Amazingly, the crew went to work and got Ricky back out for the main event in the same car!

Kokomo, Indiana's Parker Frederickson would lead the field to the green flag with Isaac Chapple alongside, but it was Carmen Perigo who showed the way early over Chapple with Matt Westfall third. The fans were again thrilled as Ricky Lewis raced his rebuilt machine through the field. Up front, Westfall was able to slip by Chapple for second and set his sights on the leader, but still, slowly sneaking up on his prey was Lewis as he was up into the top 5 battle with time remaining.

Westfall got by Perigo on lap 19 and appeared headed to victory when Lewis picked off Chapple and Perigo in a single lap and closed in on Westfall. On lap 23, Lewis got by Westfall on the high side, but the lap was negated when Cody Gardner flipped the Dom's Gulf 9 hard in turn 1 and 2. He was okay.

The 2 lap shootout saw Westfall lead the field to green with Lewis ready to pounce, But Westfall got the Ray Marshall 33M off to a great restart putting the necessary distance between himself and Lewis. With the white flag out, Lewis gave it one final hail-mary into turn 1, only to meet the same fate as his heat race run, flipping the 11 car many times through turn1 and 2. Again, luckily, he was out of the car unhurt.

Westfall was able to lead the one lap dash to the finish over Perigo, Chapple, Spithaler and Jesse Vermillion. The rest of the top 10 were Parker Frederickson, Mike Miller, Dallas Hewitt, Darin Gallagher and Cody White.
