MEMPHIS INTERNATIONAL RACEWAY TO HOST USAC SILVER CROWN SEASON OPENER IN MARCH

Millington, Tennessee (December 6, 2018)………Memphis International Raceway and the United States Auto Club announced the 2019 Season opener for the Silver Crown Champ Car Series will be held at MIR on Saturday, March 23.

This marks a return to the three-quarter mile for the popular open-wheel cars, which held its first event at Memphis in 1998. The 100-lap race will be the lid lifter on their 12-race season schedule for this season.

“This will be a great event for both MIR, the Memphis area and the USAC Silver Crown Champ Car Series,” said Tim Packman, President of MIR. “We are honored to have this legendary series with their iconic style of racing returning to Memphis.”

“An event of this caliber also lets the racing community know MIR is committed to bring more oval track entertainment to our facility. We are looking forward to this event with the local business community and our fans turning out to watch the stars in the cars.”

Top names such as 2018 champion Kody Swanson, Chris Windom and Justin Grant are expected to compete. From a historical standpoint, past Silver Crown champions such as Gary Bettenhausen, A.J. Foyt, Jeff Gordon and Tony Stewart, to name a few, all went on to championship careers on multiple levels.

“Memphis has hosted some of the most competitive races in Silver Crown history and I’m beyond thrilled the series is headed back in 2019,” said Levi Jones, USAC Series Coordinator. “Silver Crown was first there in 1998.* From day one, it’s been a first-class facility with a track perfectly suited for Silver Crown racing, offering multiple grooves and side-by-side racing, which will provide an exhilarating experience for race fans.”

Early plans are shaping up to have an open practice session on Friday, March 22 followed the next day with two practices, qualifying and the 100-lap race on Saturday afternoon. Tickets go on sale Friday, December 7 via https://tickets.thefoat.com/MIRTicke...st-1/pages/1-2
