Five Buck Grandstand Admission On Tap This Saturday Night At Macon Speedway
Event Presented By Sun Drop & Melling Performance

(Macon, IL) Only two weeks remain on the 2017 schedule at Macon Speedway and this Saturday, September 23, will likely be well attended. It's Five Buck Night, presented by Sun Drop and Melling Performance. In addition to $5 grandstand admission, fans will benefit from Sun Drop product giveaways and Melling Performance coolers, Koozies, Decals, and Pens handed out at the gates. On track, fans will see six divisions of racing and kids will enjoy CEFCU Kid's Club.

Macon Speedway held its first Five Buck night on this weekend, one season ago. It was announced just a week before the race and a huge turnout of fans were in attendance, the second biggest crowd of the year. The speedway held another, earlier this year, on May 6, and again the crowd was solid. The same can be expected this Saturday, with summer-like conditions, strong fields of cars expected, plus Sun Drop and Melling giveaways. It's a really great night to bring the whole family at a highly affordable price.

Headlining the show will be the Billingsley Elite Wash UMP Modified division. The point battle is a heated one at the top, as last year's champion, Curt Rhodes, leads the standings but by only a 22 point margin. That's a matter of 11 feature positions with two weeks of point racing left. The Taylorville, IL driver is trying to hold off Austin Lynn, of Mason City, IL. The young driver is racing in his first full season at Macon and has been really strong, winning three features and finishing in the top five 14 times out of 18 starts, matching Rhodes numbers. Jeff Graham is third in the standings, while Alan Crowder, and Danny Smith complete the top five.

It's a tight point battle in the UMP B-Mod class as well, with last year's champ, Tim Hancock, looking to repeat. Last season was a runaway for the Mt. Olive, IL driver, as Hancock won 16 out of 16 features. This season, competition has been a lot tighter, as Godfrey, IL's Cody Stillwell is only 16 points behind him, a matter of eight feature positions. Hancock has won 12 features to Stillwell's two but Stillwell has finished in the top ten of every feature this season, the difference in staying within striking distance. Jerry Thompson, Tim Riech, and Tom Riech round out the current top five.

Well, we've covered to tight point battles so far, but not the tightest. That would be in the UMP Sportsman class. In fact, it can't get any tighter. Illinois drivers, Danny Smith of Argenta and Timmy Dick of Monticello are tied at the top of the standings with 486 points each. There are two weeks left in the season and fans will have their eyes glued to the two drivers to see who can come out on top. Each driver has won two features and their other numbers nearly mirror each other as well. Scott Landers, Terry Myers, and Tim Bedinger round out the top five in points.

The Street Stock championship battle has been pretty close all season but the point leader, Brian Dasenbrock, of Decatur, IL does have a little breathing room entering the final two weeks. Dasenbrock holds a 48 point lead on Shawn Ziemer, of Boody, IL. Jason Scrimpsher, Garrett Lewis, and Jeremy Nichols complete the top five in points. Nichols has run just part time in the class but has claimed ten feature wins. Ziemer has taken one, while Dasenbrock is looking for his first of the season which could put an exclamation point on a championship.

The UMP Hornet class point championship is all but locked up, as Dustin Reed of Decatur, IL holds a 114 point lead on Cook Crawford. The most any driver can accumulate over the course of two events is 120, so Reed will likely lock it up this Saturday. Paul Peters, Marty Sullivan, and Carter Dart round out the top five in points.

Rounding out the classes in action this Saturday will be the Beach House Micros. The division has been great for the track this year, drawing large fields of cars just about every night they've been on track. In addition to the POWRi sanctioned shows, the track holds several unsanctioned shows that have seen Jeremy Camp claim three wins and Tyler Day and Tyler Duff claim one win each. Nearly 30 micros were on hand for the most recent show on Labor Day weekend.

Pit gates will open this Saturday at 4:00, grandstands at 5:00, drivers meeting at 5:45, hotlaps at 6:00, and racing will start at 7:00. Grandstand admission is $5, while kids 11 and under are free.
