I agree. I just did exactly what the sign showed (took phone out of pocket and left wallet and coins in pocket) and walked on through. Dude handed me my phone back and I kept going. Never even stopped walking. So you're right. It probably was fans fault more so than the process with that one. I still think it's completely unnecessary though.
