The flagman was staying at the same motel and at breakfast the morning after the race I ask him if he agreed with the finish. He said at the front of the flag stand Chappel was ahead and at the rear of the flagstand Gaines was ahead. It was that close.
If you have never been to the Nationals then Wednesday and Thursday are the days to attend. You will not be disappointed.
