Re: Love Hate

I only follow the sport online now-a-days, last time me and the wife and kids went to a race was 2010 at Ocala for the USAC sprint cars. I'm about 2 hours north east of Ocala, so it would be the only...

Re: Over winged sprint cars

It's sort of a combination between personal preference, acceptance, and generation. I grew up watching midgets without roll cages, true open cockpit, open wheel racing. I put up with the cars...

Re: Terre Haute Corner Entry Speeds

When I first saw this video, I was actually amazed how fast they, the sprint cars, were going into the corners. At one point he hits 123 or 124 mph, on a half mile no less! I had a conversation one...

Re: Terre Haute Corner Entry Speeds

Calistoga is a full 1/2 mile and pretty flat, should give you a good idea, though this is a 5 year old video.

Re: USAC, no passing zone?

I realize that there is always lots of racing around the track, the last couple of shows we did go to (sadly about 3 in a row) were complete run a ways from the front row. I try to find decent race...

USAC, no passing zone?

Me and the wife were having a beer, talking about summer activities, as life long sprint car, midget folks we discuss things we read, here and there. We have not been to a race in 6 or 7 years,...

Re: what hurts sprintcar racing

As I read this thread, I am discussing sprint car racing with my 21 year old daughter, as I type this. She has seen non-wing sprints literally from coast to coast, Ventura and Perris to Tampa and...

Re: ISW Payouts

Point well taken, and lets be honest the Kazarian's are not your local small town track owner/promoter, that being said, the small market track owners are in a huge battle for the entertainment...

Re: ISW Payouts

If an adult admission was say $15 in 1998, I don't know what the actual numbers were, but for conversation sake we start at $15. That's $39,000......start deducting operating expenses from there and...

Re: ISW Payouts

I was sitting in the stands at East Bay Raceway in Florida for a 410 non-wing sprint show, 2005 I think was the year, good field of cars, nice track, great middle of February weekend. The feature...

Re: Chili Bowl Engine History – Non-winners

If I'm not mistaken, Colorado's Rory Peachey finished 16th in the A feature in 1988 driving a Stewart chassis car with Cosworth Vega power, owned by Rossi Morris out of New Mexico.

Re: Too Fast

I drove midgets on and off from 1982 till 1996, competed in 3 Belleville Midget Nationals 1982, 83, 84. Never made the A main on Saturday, but did have a 9th place in a Thursday night prelim Main...

Re: This So Typical.. Sun Prarie

No one has fought this type of thing harder than Jim Naylor at Ventura, CA. I'd get his advice. I know, having grown up in Colorado, it always ended up closing the speedway. Englewood Speedway, Rocky...

Re: How much body work?

How bout no more racing all together, or put bubble wrap all around them. The spirit of the sport is lost when it no longer resembles any part of the origins of the sport. Again my opinion. If it...

Re: How much body work?

One more point, and I'm done. Having been born and raised in Colorado, good sprint car racing was rare till the later 1970's, even then there were no really great dirt tracks there. My first trip to...

Re: How much body work?

I ran midgets from 1982 till 1996, never had a drivers side guard, used foam, or cardboard under my uniform around my bicep. The only time it really got my attention was at Belleville behind the V-6...

Re: How much body work?

Man, I've really had some hostile responses about this issue. I've been going to midget, and sprint races since 1960 ( I was 6 weeks old at my first race!). I've driven, owned, been on board of...

Re: Drivers paying for pit pass?

I know this is from a long time ago in a galaxy far far away.....I kept these records my rookie season, we opened in Albuquerque, NM but I could not afford to travel to that show. There was a 2 day...

Re: Drivers paying for pit pass?

One more thing, in all the years I owned and drove midgets, the very few stand alone midget shows we ran, anywhere, just did not get very big crowds. If we raced with local hobby stocks, or sometimes...

Re: Drivers paying for pit pass?

I guess it's the time you grow up in. When I ran midgets from 1982 till 1996, it never entered my mind that I would not have to pay for a pit pass. I understood our entry fee and pit pass to be part...
