Best D2 Midget Engine(Lucas Oil Southern States)
I was looking at getting into midget racing since we have a tour down here in the SE, but was curious which engine package is best for a D2 midget that ISN'T a motorcycle engine? Going to my first in person race this weekend at Travelers Rest, SC. Is the Olds Quad 4 any good?
Thanks. |
I think TR is canceled. The race at Sumter is still on Saturday

Ecotec seems to be the popular choice

I think the quad 4 was a good choice at one time but the Ecotec has outperformed the quad 4
I've got an Ecotec and extremely happy with the performance and reliability If I was starting over I would look at the Honda also Not saying I'd go to the Honda but would weigh my options Personally I'd not put a lot of time, money or effort in a quad 4 Regardless of which way you go, look into an Accusump it's the life saver of these type engines |

Depends on what you want to spend on an Ecotec. We run with a guy that pulls them out of a salvage yard and doesn't do anything to them and they run pretty good. You have to buy an ignition, a header, and an oil pan but that's about it.

This is exactly what we do Tweak the oil pump with a spring, degree the cams and run the crap out of it All the bolt on stuff once bought goes on our next salvage yard engine We've had no engine failures with the exception of a broke ring which still ran great, just smoked like crazy Do a google search for GM's Ecotec Sports compact build guidelines It's geared towards drag racing but has all of the essential information If you can't find it I have saved as a PDF and will e mail if you want Good luck |
