Bloomington question

This might be one for the historians on here. When I visited Brownstown and Bloomington for sprintweek 2010... A local fan was telling me Bloomingtons track length used to be much bigger. coming from the East, I don't know much about track history in Indiana, but I would love to learn more about some of the tracks. Is this true? If so, how big was the track and when was it modified? Is this what the big open space off of 3 and 4 stretching down to the line of trees once was?

They mentioned on the P.A. at Bloomington this year about the track being a 5/8 mile (if I heard correctly) which was at the 3rd and 4th turns, towards the housing addition. You can kind of see how big it used to be, not sure on the years of this track. As for Brownstown I just seen a picture on here in a post(can't remember post!!) that showed it to be a 1/2 mile. I like the Bull Rings myself so I am glad they did change them, but it is some neat history. (I secretly wish the Burg would not have grown:7:)

Thanks for sharing guys! And I agree, bullring racing is awesome. The track I compete on weekly back East is a bullring and Iove it.

If you look at Bloomington on Google Earth, you can just barely make out the outline of the old track...

Bloomington is fine just the way it is. One of the unique things about the track is watching a racer get up on top and edge closer and closer to the edge, risking pushing it too far. A couple of years ago I watched Jeff Bland put on a show up there flirting with going over the edge the whole time and pulling off the win. It was awesome to watch.
