Daugherty Speedway reopening

With all the news of tracks closing it is a nice change to see a track trying to reopen

The rumors are true. Negotiations are ongoing. This will not be possible without fan support. So let your voice be heard. What classes should we run? What nights? What series should be brought in? What do you want done with the speedway?

My apologies! Thanks for clearing that up.

I certainly hope someone gets the place and keeps it open. Their post does say “Negotiations are ongoing” which means it isn’t a done deal yet.

I know one of the guys in the group trying to buy the track. Local racer from Northwest Indiana.

Around 10-12 nights next year. They will try to align specials with other local tracks.
Looks like they might reconfigure the track a bit. Picture of reconfiguration below. Go to the tracks NEW Facebook page they are welcoming all suggestions and comments on classes, specials, ect. Possible some good things in the works for the track.

I’ll never forget the USAC race, might have been ISW some years ago that I heard there

Non wing lover 8/7/19 1:59 AM

USAc sprints and midgets give fans passouts beef police presence for fan safety

Non wing lover 8/7/19 2:01 AM

Also bigger restrooms

flagboy55 8/7/19 9:52 PM

Probably the best thing they could do there is put pavement back on it

2009, ISW. Darland won in a huge battle with Cole Whitt (remember him?)

How quickly you forget, pavement is for getting there, dirt is for racing, I ran there under both configurations, and the pavement was not a friendly beast, one night I think everyone dropped out of the feature, it got so slick, everyone thought someone was losing oil, but it was as the sun went down, the air got really dense, and the track instantly went super slick. Besides the cost, it isn't the easiest track to access, especially with big equipment.

I remember the cows in the adjoining pasture seemed to enjoy the races!

Actually I’m not particularly fond of pavement either but the dust at the place has been brutal at times. That USAC race there was a dandy what you could see of it. It will be interesting to see what happens and what classes they choose to run. Another Saturday night dirt track might be tough

They are looking at getting new clay that doesn't produce as much dust and reconfiguring the track.

When numbnuts bought the track a few years ago I sent him a very similar reconfiguration idea for the track, and I am eager to see if the new owners can actually do it. I don’t think the historical society thing will be a good use of that space on the backstretch, but it’s not my money.

New clay would be nice. I used to teach in the school district the track is in and I think that place would still be dusty if they paved it. Just the natural conditions of that area.

I will agree.
