Lawrenceburg 4/27 Increased purse, King of the Midwest

APRIL 27TH – KING OF THE MIDWEST SPRINTS - $2,500 TO WIN

The 7th Annual King of the Midwest Sprints race will be held on Saturday night April 27th at the Lawrenceburg Speedway in Lawrenceburg, Ind. This event features an increased purse with the Kelsey Chevrolet Sprints paying $2,500 to win and $250 to start the 25-lap feature.

King of the Midwest Sprints Feature Payout ($11,225 total)
1- $2,500, 2- $1,250, 3- $1,000, 4- $700, 5- $600, 6- $500, 7- $475, 8- $450, 9- $425,
10- $400, 11- $375, 12- $350, 13- $325, 14- $300, 15- $275, 16- $270, 17- $265, 18-
$260, 19- $255, 20- $250.

As standard practice at all Lawrenceburg Speedway races there will be $100 tow money paid to all sprint cars that do not start the feature, and $63 paid to the Hard Charger, the driver who advances the most positions in the feature.

In addition to the increased purse Saturday night there will also be a slight change to the
Lawrenceburg Speedway race format. A blind pill draw will still be used to set the heat race groups, but lap times gathered during practice will set the heat race lineups. Cars will be lined straight up by time with the fastest four cars in each heat race inverted.

Heat race finish will still determine the lineups for the B Main(s) and feature with the top two
finishers in each heat race (if five or more heats only the winners) redrawing for their starting position at the front of the feature field.

Kelsey Chevrolet Sprints point leader Dickie Gaines is the defending King of the Midwest
Sprints and he will be aiming for his third straight crown Saturday to break a tie with CJ Leary (2013 & 2015). Gaines should be the only former King in attendance due to Leary and Kevin Thomas, Jr. (2014) having commitments to the full USAC silver crown schedule, and 2017 King Jon Stanbrough’s retirement last season.

2018 track champion Garrett Abrams will be looking stop Gaines win streak with his own
coronation. Abrams was very quick two weeks ago, holding his own with USAC regulars Robert Ballou and CJ Leary, leading the first seven laps of the feature. Abrams trails Gaines in the season standings by just 25 points and is ten markers ahead of three-time champion Joss Moffatt (2007, 2009 & 2015).

Rounding out the current top five in points are Landon Simon, the 2018 WAR Wildcard Sprint
champion, and JJ Hughes. Hughes, the 2009 Lawrenceburg Speedway rookie of the year,
should be chomping at the bit for group qualifying as he has been the one of the fastest cars in practice all season.

Who will wear the crown in 2019? Ask Dickie Gaines, "It's good to be king"

With the KISS series gone, it is nice to see a track keeping the race on the schedule.

That's exactly what it is, And I know Kokomo and Paragon also held KISS style races and purses even after the series stopped.

It was a series for weekend racers to visit other tracks and compete against each other for te title of King of Indiana. I think a helmet and point fund went with it.
But each race had a expanded purse over normal weekly shows and they were scheduled against USAC most times

What made it neat though was that Tracks holding KISS races wouldn't run sprints against another KISS race.
This got increasingly harder to do with more tracks going to Saturday night only..

That 2013 race was the one where KTJ was leading in the Dutcher car. CJ was in about fourth or fifth and it rained on like lap five. Stopped after a short and I was saying to myself, Nobody's going to catch KT on the super fast after rain track.

Last corner of last lap CJ Leary with the slider and the win.
